Samsung back to iPhone 3

Hello Androids,
I bought a lovely Samsung Galaxy (II I think but not sure) on Sunday and it was stolen today (grr), so I just have to go back to using my stone-age iPhone 3 until I can afford a new one again. Crying!!!!!

Right so I wondered if there is any way I can get my info from my Samsung back. To start with I had installed Cerberus but phone cannot be located. I guess that means the thief turned it off as soon as it came out of my possession. I am hoping this means they will eventually turn it on and I can find the bugger.

Ok, so when I set up my phone I had to get gmail so that I could use it better and so I did, and was therefore able to sync all contacts from my old phone onto the new one. I am assuming that means my stuff is somewhere either on my Mac or in cyber space? I am a girl, and I am not all that high tech. So bare with me. Any help is SO appreciated.

If anyone has a better way of me getting my phone back I am all ears... Although I guess it is pretty much like finding that needle in the haystack.

Thank you!!

Hi Carro, sorry about your loss. If I understand correctly, it sounds like your contacts are all synced to google... you'd be able to check by going into your gmail account and looking for contacts.

As far as finding a stolen phone, maybe check craigslist? I heard someone tracked their stolen bike that way. Caught the crook too. Best of luck, adn welcome to Android Forums!

Hi Carro,

Welcome to Android Forums.

Sorry to hear about your stolen phone :( And so soon after you got it too, how annoying! I take it you didn't have insurance? :(

If the thief has turned it off or disabled the data connection, it's going to be difficult for you to locate the device, but I would strongly recommend you try using "Plan B" on the Play Store:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb&hl=en

Even though your phone has been taken, you can log into that website using your Google account and click "Install." That will then install the app to your device as soon as it connects to the internet, as long as it's still logged in with your Google account. It will then email the location to you.

Your contacts will indeed be backed up in the cloud, which means that if you get another phone you can simply login to it using your Google account and it will sync the contacts to your new phone, so don't worry too much about those.

Hope this helps :)

Wow thank you for the quick replies! I have gone onto gmail and indeed all contact info is there, how easy! I assume I cant get my codes... I had an app called something, Keeper I think... wonder if I can get the codes and passwords I had on there... any idea?

I am going to download Plan B now, but do I do that on my laptop or on another mobile phone?

Thank you both again for your quick and helpful replies!!!

Awesome, only had it for three days but became a fan immediately. Will try continue with Android, just need to live with my old iPhone 3 a bit longer I guess. Thank you guys for your help!! All contacts and passwords have been restored and plan B is on it as well as Cerberus. I am sending you some sun from Portugal in case you need it where you are!

Sorry me again... I just thought of something. I got myself a new SIM card today, same number etc and have got my apps and email accounts back onto my old phone (iPhone 3). So, when I downloaded Plan b does this still go onto my Galaxy as it only works for Galaxy or will there now be some confusion as I already got a new SIM and reinstalled gmail onto my old phone? hope this makes sence!

Sending you all some more sun :$

It won't download onto your iPhone, it will only download onto an Android phone that's logged into your Google account. That will either be the stolen phone, or your new phone if you buy another Android phone and log into the same Google account.

Unfortunately because of the media making a big thing about people retrieving their lost smartphones using things like this, a lot of thieves are becoming more savvy to it. Hope it works though!

I had the super cool face lock then when that didn't work a pass code so they should not be able to get in... But cant they just plug it in and restore it? Cos with my old iPhone I plugged it into iTunes and just clicked restore and it took it back to initial settings and even got rid of passcode... so that way maybe they can get rid of my Plan B app and my Cerberus?
