Help Issues with wifi and signal, too

I am definitely seeing issues with wifi. For no apparent reason it will just cut out. I thought I was imagining it until I set up a Smart Action for home that dims the screen. Periodically while setting thing up, etc., the screen would brighten and when I would look at the wifi icon it would have zero bars and be white. It would immediately try to reconnect, but this is definitely not normal behavior.

I'm also only getting a 1x signal at work. I'm usually good for 4G here, though low. And if not 4G, then 3G. My phone was set for Global and I changed it to LTE/CDMA, which seems to have brought back my 4G connection, but doesn't it need to be set to Global for when I'm not in a Verizon area? Or is that strictly traveling out of the country?

Is anyone else seeing issues like I'm describing, or did I get a dud?

No, just got mine last night. Everything works perfect. I came from a razr maxx, and noticed one less bar of signal. I downloaded and used the network tower selector and now have the same number of bars

Is your phone set to Global, or LTE/CDMA?

It's located under:
Settings, More (under Data Usage), Mobile Networks, Network Mode

I switched over to LTE/CDMA (my phone came with Global set) and got my 4G back.

Thanks.

I went to the store, explained to the rep what was going on. He proceeded to "play" with my phone which actually irked me a little bit because he was in my contacts, my web pages, my applications, etc. He was trying to recreate the wifi issue, and I get that he needs to do some basic trouble shooting, but seriously...I just bought it yesterday. Why on earth would I want to exchange a perfectly working phone??? And I paid full retail to boot (yeah, I'm insane). Thank goodness his manager was right there and told him to do the swap out.

So I have the new phone in hand and while I was having the most trouble at home, I'm at work and have not had the wifi drop at all and even better, I'm now holding a 4G signal (albeit a very bad one) while on "global". I couldn't get one before on Global.

I'm hopeful this means I'm back in business.

Lol - went in and selected LTE/CDMA and that caused me to LOSE my 4G connection!!! Resetting back to Global did not get it back either. Rebooted and it came back.

Yeah I did the same thing reading this thread haha. Rebooted with the preferred set to LTE and it works fine though.

Sucks that you had an issue with your phone though, shouldn't be acceptable on a brand new device, and that rep sounds like a moron. Glad you got it sorted though.

I am having the same issue, has yours been fixed by a new phone? I was wondering if my router might be the problem but every other device works fine with it.

Thanks

I thought it was fixed but then last night it got very wonky and was constantly going on and off wifi. I have an Apple Airport router. I switched over to the 5 ghz frequency and it seems to be more solid. I have no idea what's going on but the manager at the store said he had a similar problem with his router/new phone and he fixed it by doing a complete reset of the router. I really, REALLY don't want to go there so hoping staying on the 5 ghz frequency resolves it. So far it seems to have (though I'm still seeing fluctuations, I'm not seeing complete shut downs and it trying to switch to 4G and then going back to wifi).

P.S. like you, every other device in my home works rock solid with the router as well.

I forget to mention I am using a linksys wrt54gs. Mine goes up and down on signal strength and blue to white.I hope this isnt the rumor they mentioned before the phones came out. I like the phone but this blows if it cant be fixed, I will return it and get something else. its strange alot of people aren't having the issue though.

Thanks

The Blue to White "issue" is the device connecting to Google's servers. Its normal.

I am not concerned with that as I just was reading that is normal, But what happens is I totally lose wifi signal. It actually disappears all together and comes back after a few seconds.

Does anyone else have lower than normal wifi signal or have a cut out issue?

(As you know from PM) I am having the exact same behavior, and I actually posted on Motorola's forums about it last night. They have been responding by asking me some questions about my set up but haven't offered any trouble shooting solutions yet.

Mobile data is on, it's set to Global

Others are reporting more reliable/better signal when switching to LTE/CDMA, however it does require a reboot after making the change. Also make sure roaming is turned on. Global is apparently only useful for out of the country...at least that's what I'm reading online.

I switched mine to LTE/CDMA. It's certainly not working any worse than when it was set to Global.

You could try a hard reset...same key action as taking a screenshot only hold it longer. Power and volume down at the same time...you'll hear it take the screenshot but keep holding the buttons and it will power down. Release buttons and it will power back on.

I am having weaker signal with my Maxx HD than I did with the iPhone 5 or the regular MAXX. I am reading as many bars and dbm's in settings as I did on my Galaxy Nexus! Even in areas where I had full bars and low dbm's on my Gnex iPhone 5 and regular MAXX I have horrible reception.

I have switched between Global and LTE CDMA. I am getting bummed. Motorola usually has excellent radios. I hate that I can't force 3g it will just alternate if there is a week 4g signal. The original MAXX you could go total 3G to improve signal.

Hey guys, I just purchased the Razr HD today, and I am having terrible Wif-fi issues. Every time you have to turn on or turn off Wi-fi it restarts...won't hold a wifi signal. I went out for a walk after getting wifi set up, went to 4g, and it won't return to wifi when you enter the signal range with having to manually turn it off then it will reboot itself and come back on that way. Then tonight, while leaving for work, it wouldn't find 4g or any network until I turned off wifi again, of course rebooted, then worked. I shouldn't have to turn wifi on and off everytime. Looks like this is an issue, so this is my story.

Good luck. Sounds like it could be a SIM card issue.

Yeah they had me pull the sim and reset the phone....still does it here at work, but the approval page for their wifi is a website not sure if that matters, but everywhere else there's NO problem or slow connectivity going from wifi to regular signal....

Next time I call I go directly to level 3 tech support...

talked to a Verizon rep on the phone today. I advised him of the issues and that I was going to do a warranty exchange at the store tomorrow. He noted my account for them to do the exchange because it has already gone through trouble shooting.

He also placed me on hold to see if this was a known issue. When he came back he said in a serious voice, " The only known possible fix for this is a battery pull. And the only known issue is that the battery is hard to pull." I said I doubt a battery pull would do it and I hope it is hard to pull the battery.

The rep then asks me in awe "Why is that not a possible solution, and why do you hope it is hard to pull the battery?" I replied, This is the Razr Maxx HD. The battery is sealed like the iPhone, it is a non removable battery.

The rep then says "oh" Lol
