My power button has had a mind of its own the past couple of days and its gotten a lot worse.

Last feb. I got a replacement refurb from Asurion.

Last week my power button has been clicking on and off non stop the screen has been going off, its trying to shut down and turning the phone on is a PAIN.

I took a quick peek inside the phone (one screw is stuck so I couldnt get it completly open) and the button looked fine, it clicks fine. But there is no response when pressed.

I need to start my phone into download mode so I can RELOCK my phone for Asurion purposes. I want to get a replacement while it is still on warranty.

But when I try to get into download mode it just keeps turning off. And now that I had removed my battery. The phone gets to the SAMSUNG screen and then turns off.

Any thoughts / ideas?! Please I just want to get it on atleast!

Just a thought here, do you think the battery itself could be the culprit? Or perhaps the contacts for the battery to phone?
Thinking out loud here :)

Hey I have 3 different batteries all work perfectly fine so that theory is out.

I got the phone on last night and I am trying to keep it on! lol

When I had it open last night I was able to click on the power button directly on the chip and not the button on the housing of the phone... it still did nothing. :/

any other ideas? I just have to LOCK the bootloader and then I can put the claim through under a warranty

By "relocking the bootloader" can I assume you are rooted and want to unroot?

If so, what carrier are you on?
Basically, you would need to use an app called "Triangle Away" while still rooted, then find the stock firmware and install it via ODIN. More or less. :)

If you can let us know what carrier and model of S3 you have, I think we can direct you to the corrrect guide to unroot:)

Thanks Mikestony! I am on Verizon with a Blue 32GB SG3, I Have triangle away floating around somewhere on my computer. So thats no problem, but I think when I unrooted last time my phone didn't unlock the bootloader? And the "SAMSUNG UNLOCKED" screen still started up. Yes it needs to but unrooted and relocked.

But my problem is I can't boot into download mode with the Power button being held down constantly... I barely got it turned on

The phone shuts down after the Samsung Screen or when I get into download mode it shuts down after the Android logo appears...

It wont boot though GT mate

Yeah thanks for thinking of that!

I can't test it out because of my phone, but when anyone else turns on their SG3 and continues to hold the power button do you get past the Samsung screen? (next screen is the samsung galaxy s3 screen and then 4g LTE... i believe from memory)

Just tried it and it stays on the samsung screen for like 4secs then reboots again.
Sounds like the button is your problem so only way to fix it is by fixing the button :(

hmmm alright thanks for checking it out for me! Now I have to figure out what route to take... either try fixing it myself (not experienced in that), pay $100 to the insurance thiefs, or leave my phone on forever and ever

Depends when you plan on gettin a new phone i suppose mate
Not getting one with an update, for a long long time, because I still have unlimited data with Verizon :D

Take ur battery out plug into pc and then try putting into download mode just had to do this with s2 i soft bricked

I don't think that will work because the power button is held down and it won't get past the Samsung screen with that happening.

If I shut it down I'll be lucky to get it back on at all.
