4.3 update Discussion and issues HERE !!!

The update being pushed to the Note II is Android Version 4.3, just checked. Can someone shed any light on the pdanet/foxfi issue? Thought they couldn't block this now? Appreciate help.
The 4.3 update plugged the hole that allowed Wi-Fi tethering. Users report that unless rooted, it is now unusable. Though USB tethering works from what I briefly read.

Also, did they take away the ability to take a snapshot of a video? Any help is appreciated.
No. It's still there. Just not enabled by default. To re enable capture, play the video in Video player. The press the menu key. Select settings and check the box beside capture. This should enable the snapshot again for videos.

Hi, thank you in advance, I just had my note 2 to 4.3. Everything is ok except that the scroll of the gallery really isn't responding to scrolling really well... but the most important error is that I can't write anything to my sd card (64 gb sandisk). Everything used to be perfectly fine on my previous android version (taking pictures to sd card, copying files to sd card, etc.), now it seems nothing is written... I tried deleting pictures from my external sd card but I don't see it getting deleted, I restart the phone the file is still there, the camera also doesn't write any new photos on the external sd card as well... It puts it in a gallery then it shows the broken file icon afterwards and same thing on restart, the file wasn't written. Was there a bug in 4.3 update that was missed out making writing to sd card to no function? Thanks.

There is no such bug per se, but some cards can malfunction. I would try to reformat the card. Take it out and put it into a micro-SD card reader and format it as Fat32. Try this first. If your PC won't even recognise the card it is more than likely defunct. There are many reports of faulty Sandisk cards around, however, this is not the case as a rule, therefore, I would also try it in another phone if you can.

Just rec'd update notification. Am afraid to update. I apologise in advance bcause My questions may seem v naive to many of you but as an advance OAP I think I'm doing ok with yr help.
1.Which Is the Best way to update, via OTA or Kies?
2. Last yr it was recommended that it is better to"clean install" but that all data should b backed up as it will b wiped out. I'm sorry to say that I do not know what that means. By data, exactly what constitutes data. What will b wiped out? I've imp txt msgs, photos, documents, emails, memos, notes. Some are on phone memory others on sd.
3. If I do factory reset, do I lose my "data"? Eg would I have to set up email on my Phone again?
4 I've tried in the past downloading info from phone on to my pc via kies, it just downloaded my contacts. Nothing else. For me the most important things are what I've listed in 2.i do hv sms backup+ app. But that's all. I simply can't afford to lose my notes or memos.

I apologise for long post n cramming too many things.
Thanking you in advance

I moved your post here as we are trying to keep all the 4.3 questions here, I am sure others will chime in.

Before formatting, check and make sure the card is mounted. Go to settings and find the Storage setting and scroll all the way to the bottom and make sure it shows the card as being mounted. If not, try mounting the card.

If you do have to take the reformat route, when you put it in your PC, try to copy your stuff off of the card before formatting.

As for the SanDisk Bad Card Issue, it shows itself by spontaneously unmounting the card, usually when read/write activity to the card begins. I had one of these. SanDisk will supposedly replace the card, but all I got was the run around. They told me they would replace it, but would never follow up on what they said. I ended up buying a Samsung SD card (64GB Pro) and have no issues since.

Hope this helps a bit,

No sure why I didn't see that when I looked. :stupid: Thanks Again!
No one sees this at first because the settings option only appears when you start playing the video. No where else. So it's hidden until one stumbles into it by mistake.

You can refer to my post about doing a clean install.

When you do a clean install, you are going to reset your device back to factory defaults (before and after update). This means everything (contacts, SMS, MMS, pics, apps, etc) will be cleaned out. You are basically nuking your device and starting fresh again.

it shows that it's mounted I think.. since I have the option to unmount it..

so.. I tried formatting it and my windows 8 won't let me do a full format on exfat type (the next file system I could select was NTFS and I vaguely remember I broke my old 16 gig micro card and turned it into a 128 mb sd card when I chose that option..)..

I tried to copy/delete files once it was in my laptop... but it seemed that the files magically came back after deleting it.. and the files I copied didn't appear in the sd card even if it looked like it got copied in windows.. I inserted the card in my phone, the files copied weren't there and the deleted files were still there.. it looks like any file operation made on the card didn't happen and all existing files in the card were permanently stuck..

Thanks for the replies.. I might buy a samsung 64g as recommended if all solutions can't work.. it's just a waste everything was working fine before the 4.3 update.. this all happened after the update and I just have a feeling my card really is fine.. something along the update messed up my card..

Sounds like the card is locked in read only mode. That would explain why files copied don't work and deleted files remain. But locks of this nature are hardware related and not software.

Couple of small things I've also noticed since the upgrade:

1) When smart-stay is activated, the little eye icon is permanently in the notification bar now. Before it would only pop up when you hadn't touched the screen in a while and it was checking to see if you were still looking at it.

2) Every time I turn my phone on in the morning the little tab for multi-window re-appears even if I'd hidden it previously. Before the update, if I hid it by holding down the back button, it wouldn't re-appear again unless I un-hid it, even after re-booting.

Not really problems, but something I'd noticed.

Refer to my post to get to the Android Recovery Console and Safe Mode.

Try the following:

1) Access the Android Recovery Console and do a cache wipe on the device and reboot. See if that resolves the issue.

2) If the problem persists after a cache wipe, boot into Safe Mode. If it works as normal, than a third party app may be causing the issue.

3) If the problem still persists after a cache wipe and safe mode, then the install went bad and you may need to resort to a hard reset back to factory defaults. This is the last resort as it will wipe out your internal storage. So make sure you back up everything important before going this route.
