Help Android 4.4 (KitKat) help/discussion

If you don't want the widgets, don't use it and you'll never notice.

If you want the old lockscreen then that's not a matter of disabling but replacement. Probably not possible without root, cannot guarantee it would work without downgrading as I've not tried. You could try a 3rd party like WidgetLocker if you don't like the new version.

This right here is what I would prefer but I guess I will just have to live with it. The new lockscreen is harder to unlock for me with the natural movement of my thumb when using it one handed.

Interesting. That's something I've not noticed being different. Getting to widgets, yes, but the unlocking seems the same to me.

Ok, I'm running a custom ROM, but I don't think that aspect is different from stock.

If you do a search this is happening on the Nexus devices as well after kitkat. Happens to me all the time now. An apn change seems to help some but I am not that tech savy so I will have to wait for an update /fix.

No one needs to explain to me what it means, thank you ;) I know exactly what it means. I also know that the issue did not occur until after I completed the update. Within 10 minutes of completing the update at 3 in the morning to be specific, while connected through an Airave 2.5 with the expanded range mode enabled... It continues to occur outside the residence, as well as in my business or anywhere I happen to be (Including Vegas last week) immediately after a phone call is completed.

It also occurs irrespective of whether I have my phone forced into 3G mode, or if I am in 4G, and on a 4G network (which allows for simultaneous voice and data.)

Keeping that in mind, I once again point out that it may be part of a Sprint specific software update that is causing this error to pop up. This does not mean it's not an issue with the towers, or my airave (that's a lot of coincidences ) The message may be suppressed on other software revisions and /or it may be caused by a timeout that is occring when data is not re-established correctly after a call. Either way it is an issue to report. Please also keep in mind I have 2 other phones on this account that are not experiencing this issue, including another HTC One that is still on 4.3 and an Evo 4G LTE. Neither of those phones is experiencing the issue.

-FYI I used to work on Cingular equipment during their TDMA/GSM conversion and the implementation of the E911 system- Including Trueposition LMU programming /SIADS programming as well as wire up DSX panels so I have some familiarity with cell tower operations.

Same here. It's frustrating

I'm not sure if this is kitkat related but I no longer have the ability to share my pictures via HTC share. Anyone else having this problem? When I go into "accounts" and select my HTC account is says that sync is off and I have no way to turn it on. Has HTC stripped down this great service or has something changed of which I'm unaware?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

UPDATE:

Here's a follow up in case anyone else has the same problem. HTC first had me wipe the cache partition but that didn't work. But we then did a simple "clear data" under applications and that fixed it. I'm on Verizon and suspect the problem arose after the KitKat update.

So I know I have to have pin lock due to work requirements. But ever since kitkat, I now also have to swipe up to unlock. Then it takes me to my pin unlock screen.

I have my "lock phone after" set to the highest 30 minutes. In the past if within that 30 minutes, all i need to do it hit power button and I could use my phone.

Now I have to slide up. I've tried "bypass lock screen on wakt", but that doesn't do anything. How can I eliminate the slide up so I don't have to do double to unlock phone?

The short answer is you cannot. HTC removed the option to not have a lockscreen with KitKat.

Sadly, the only option is a custom ROM, to the best of my knowledge

Nope, just checked. I'm sure foxfi will send out an update here soon to fix it. Hopefully. Can't seem to figure out the lock screen widgets also.

Oh man, I was using Foxfi to hotspot my Verizon HTC One at home to stream Netflix and play online on my Xbox without having to pay ridiculous Brighthouse bills. I guess I'm dead in the water now... Anyone have any work arounds? Foxfi was the only app that I could find that works for Verizon without paying for the mobile hotspot feature, which would also make me lose my unlimited data plan.

Also, my Google Calendar gives an error everytime I try to update/sync it since updating. "Unfortunately, Google Calendar Sync has stopped." Anyone know how to fix that?

Hello and welcome to the forums . is this a cloud app. And after your updating did u do a factory reset to get rid of the old data.
Thank you BRAINZ2013 for the welcome, it's the Verizon Cloud app that used to be Backup Assistant Plus or something like that. No, I didn't do a factory reset after the update...was I suppose to? Haven't had HTC One long so I'm learning about the phone as I go along so bear with me. Any help from you or anyone else in the forum would be great.

Kit Kat on my HTC One Sprint SUCKS!!! It has messed up my messages. I can NOT use default messaging app for SMS or MMS and Google Hangouts SUCKS. I am not 18 years old. The phone worked fine, now Kit Kat doesn't let the messaging get to my google voice number. Such crap.

If I had known this...I would NOT have updated it. If it ain't broke....

Now I am stuck with buggy nonsense. Cmon Sprint! FIX THIS!!!

If I do a factory reset, it doesn't guarantee a fix, and I will have to reload everything. Plex media server won't work unless I make changes to the sprint proxy servers.....what a joke.

Sprint + HTC ONE + KIT KAT = CRAP!!!

Have you looked in Settings > Wireless & Networks > More for the "default message app" setting. This is new in 4.4, so wonder whether setting that to the Messages app rather than Hangouts will fix it (i.e. whether Sprint have "helpfully" set this to Hangouts)?
