[MOD]App2External_SD (Fixed Duplicate files)

I've rooted, set up recovery, and set up Wi-Fi hotspot. But when my play store was saying insufficient storage, I decided to do the sd card fuse.

I followed the directions to a tee, and i got this.

u7ede7eg.jpg

Duplicate photos, and i suspect every other kind of file, on both internal and external sd cards. And I'm still getting this

Also when i decided to delete the pictures from internal, so i didn't havetwo of each, it also deleted from external and i lost my pictures.

I never formatted my sdcard when i bought it and don't know what file system it is using. Any ideas, if i cam do this mangy phone will be complete.

I have a ill issue. I did my metro F6 and all went well. My F6 read 29gb on sdcard0 and on ext sd card. both are the same available and total. my brother has exact same phone and I did his, but some games fail to load, so I checked storage and his reads total 14 gb on internal and 1.2gb on external. it's like it swapped them. did I need to format first. my sd card was new his was from previous phone. how do I uninstall mod and reinstall correctly? fast help would appreciated because he is here now visiting. thanks ahead of time.

hmmm.... I am not sure what exactly is going on but the pics you posted look just like my phone. He could have a partition set up on the SD card which is why you can only see 14gb total.

I did Unmount the SD Card and when I remounted it (giggity) it showed the same on both internal and external but when I looked under settings/apps it showed internal memory was the same as stock.

I kept getting insufficient storage so I had to format my SD card and add a partition for Link2SD. I did a factory reset, ran through this process again and everything worked like a charm.

Hope it helps

Thank you to everyone on this thread. I'm really happy with this phone, especially with the extra storage space - thanks to you all! It took me some time to piece it all together, but I successfully implemented this mod coupled with link2SD.

For any other newbies who are trying to puzzle through this, make sure to partition your SD card first, then implement androidguy1991's workflow, and finally create the link2SD links. Duper1 posted a nice tutorial on link2SD. Do Step 1 (Partitioning your SD Card), then go through androidguy1991's workflow, and then do Step 2 (Moving apps to SD Cards).

Hmm... Wait, I thought link2sd was used to move apk data not the apk installments itself... Or not.. Can someone clarify this? I am using app manager and using the app2sd function... I think I mentioned using link2sd before but I forgot the true functionality of it.

Link2SD moves the installed APKs to a special formatted partition on the SD card, and transparently uses this as app storage, if you set it to link automatically you can almost forget it's there.

This script simply swaps out the emulated SD card for your actual inserted external SD card. Together used in conjunction with each other they make the F3 seem like a new phone.

Yeah I have duplicates too... this phone has so much potential but these dumb hardware mistakes make me regret buying this phone

Its not hardware, it's FUSE... Floating User System whatever... It's coding and software. There is nothing wrong with the hardware, it's only doing what its told to do by code and software. This is something that is present on any phone running Android 4.0 or higher that utilizes low memory capacity. It creates floating layers of data, the actual Move to SD Card function itself in the app setting is only emulating a mountable USB Storage drive not putting the data on the actual physical SD Card. It's this odd virtual storage system they created. It even has an option for it in the build.prop.

Either they are telling us without telling us that phones are phones and tablets are tablets... or they junked this all up. I feel like they are making me go get a tablet to game on and simply my phone for a phone and minor other things. It's almost like they don't want us having this much power or capability with a phone. Basically, you want storage you want all the bells n whistles? Go buy a tablet. Hell they have 128 and 256Gb SD Cards now, how long do you think before we phone users get to use em.

Hi I was looking for this solution or trying to get mounts2sd to work. Can someone tell me where does downloading a file (like on google chrome), or saving screenshots, or download images (google chrome) go to?

With this MOD does it go straight on top my internal or external SD like app does?

Thanks :)!!! This is the deciding factor

App data goes on the SD Card, for apps you need something else, like Link2SD.

Used this App2External_SD mod and Link2SD. I have yet to get an insufficient storage message. I have 4GBs left of 12.5GBs SD Card, 2GBs left of 2.5Gbs Link2SD and 1.0GB left of 1.2GB Phone storage. I have a ton of apps and a bunch of huge games.

I thank you very much for coming up with at least 50% of the solution and solving the problem.

I did this, and it seems to work...but then it's telling me insufficient storage. It did load about 1 GB of apps to the new 'internal' storage, which is the SD card. But it's still using the actual internal storage for something..and I ran out of space on it, and it's not letting me install new apps...

This is only moving stuff like app data and game files, not the actual APK files which still get installed on the internal memory. You want to get Link2SD to completely free the phone from its limitations. This will require partitioning the SD Card.

Aw, so I gotta start over? Or perhaps I can partition this with Gparted..Just a swap and ext4 Partition?

It was easier when I had a recovery to work with, TWRP had a partitioning tool built in for my Evo V

No you don't have to start over just back up your SD card format your SD card with a Fat32 partition for external storage and an Ext2 partition for link2sd. I used a 16gb card and did a 12.5gb Fat32 and 2.5gb Ext2. I still have yet to go over 400 mbs on my Ext2 partition. So you really don't need to allocate any more than 2gbs for your Ext2 Link2SD partition.

Put your SD card back in and it will swap your external Fat32 with the internal on boot and then you download and install Link2SD from Play Store and when you open it, it will ask you which partition to link, you would choose Ext2.

Then you go from there. Do not set up Link2SD to automatically link anything. This really is only good to do if your using Link2SD with no other Mod. You kind of want to manage what you install manually because its not good to always link everything with Link2SD while using this Mod, some things can and will break.

Do not use Link2SD to link any game.apk you install to your SD Card, use the default move to SD option in the app list in the settings menu. The mod will handle those files when you move them to the SD Card using the default option. Do not use Link2SD to link any personalization apps (Launcher,SMS,Themes,Icons,Lock Screens), leave those on your internal.

I again repeat this step with great emphasis! Do not use Link2SD to link Smanager to your SD Card that App must stay on your internal memory at all times.

I personally use MiniTool Partition Wizard to do my formatting it's quick, it's easy, and it works every time. That and it's free.

This does not work for me at all! In smanage after running the script (or on boot in log) I get this error

line 2: $\r':command not found
usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory
mount: No such file or directory
mount: No such file or directory

I tried typing the commands in manually in an su shell but it falls apart at line 7 saying device not found or some such, but when I type mount and the system lists all mounted devices I can see that /dev/block/vold/179:33 is mounted.

Is this because smanage or init.d is running too late and the drives have already been mounted? I am using a freshly formatted sd card.

I'd really like to figure this out. I know my wife really wants to be able to use more programs.

I guess I'll just setup link2sd again.

Any help would be appreciated with this issue!
Thanks,
-SawBones

I've given it my best shot. Can't seem to make this mod work, even with 2 factory resets. I've triple-checked instructions, files, settings, etc. with no love for my 32GB card. I'm thinking it's something very simple, but it's ok for now. I don't have that many apps to install anyway, so I'll pay attention for what we all really want, and that's an Unlocked Bootloader!

Thanks guys, I'll be waiting in the wings...
What is the issue you are having?
