2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

As has been said a few times, V3 and the OTA are the same thing. You won't find any additional features unless you were on 1.5 to start. V1 and V2 will see improvements and bug fixes. Other than that, nothing.

I have a feeling that the features VZW listed in the PDF will end up coming in an update/patch down the road.

Sure has been a lot of reading/F5-ing/waiting for OTA or news of "leakers" getting the official OTA just to find out I've had it for several weeks. Bummer. Although I was expecting that result, just holding out a little hope.

features, no. but weren't there a few people who said a couple of glitches had been fixed, dialer lag removed, etc? better battery life, less lag, such things?

cause even with call log trimmer trimming to five calls in the log, this dialer is still atrocious

Really? I'm on V3 and don't have any dialer lag, keyboard lag or.....well.....any lag for that matter. Can't say anything about battery life though. I don't make it even half a day on a full charge, I just use the phone too much.

okay, maybe you wanna troubleshoot me? apps installed: Appbrain

issues seem to be, specifically, when i end a call and try to make another. i let the "not call log" app take me out of the call log, re enter the phone app and dial a new number. i do dial from the phone, not the ppl app.

any thoughts?

i'm not getting keyboard lag (usually), though occasionally ill have a spike of lag but it lasts all of 5 seconds and goes back to normal.

Damn... on 1.5, just tried to install 2.1 leak and followed instructions in post #1:

can't open/cache/recovery/command
install from sd card
finding update package
opening update package
E: can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
Installation aborted.

I think I want my mommy.

ETA: might have found problem. Have a double-zip. :) will try again

ETA: YAY! It's doing its thing. Thank you guys SO much for laying it out very clearly for us non-geeks.

If not a double zip, go into Astro File Manager and move it to the top level of the sd card. That was my original problem.

Damned, I just got back from my Verizon store and they gave me a brand new Eris because I had some issues with missed calls and bluetooth. I am going to try the update now. I currently have 1.5

Wish me luck!

what are you basing this opinion on?
Not opinion, fact. A 2.1v3 phone and a 2.1 OTA are exactly the same. I have seen them side by side. I have a 2.1v3 phone, my daughter has a 2.1 OTA. No difference that I can tell, in looking for the tell-tale signs like pinch-to-zoom on Google Maps, and other things that Verizon has advertised. 50% bug is still there, etc.

No...dont wanna root right now, I am sure someone here will figure out how to root from 2.1.

Wow....it's taking a long time..

It sticks on the deleting files screen for a while, then it sticks on the verizon screen, and then after it seems to be all done, you still have to wait a while for it to load sense.
Finally you will be ready to go.

Disappointing, but true. I still have the 50% issue, and the signal meter problem. Other than that I'm pretty happy.

Same here. It seems like those 2 bugs dont really effect anything. So Im just focused on being happy with all the improvements right now.
I also got the keyboard with voice to text, so I got everything I wanted.
