OMG WHY!!! Scratched screen!!!

my first touch screen device and i had them put the screen protector on in store before I even touched it.

a case could be made for phones coming with 1 screen protector for free, but I thought it was pretty much common sense to spend 10 bucks to protect 600. going to the beach id have a full case cover.

my screen is all scratched...

Folly Beach is great! Been there many times... in-laws own a house on the beach. Lots of Sand... that's what probably scratched it. I lost a phone on that beach once. I Don't take them to the beach anymore.

Until they start making screens from diamonds, they will ALL scratch eventually. It's just a matter of time.

A screen made of diamonds will really look crappy. We already have people upset their phone is capped at 30FPS :D

Plus, when it is made of diamonds, what if I happen to be rolling around in a bunch of lonsdaleite with my phone one day?

I would also like to point out that a lot of the "wet" protectors, like XOSkins and Zagg will make existing scratches much less noticeable. I find that I am preferring the XOSkins one over Zagg, since it has much, much less (nearly none) of the "orange peel" texture than the Zagg one has.

DITTO here!! I have XO skin on my screen and love it. You really can't beat lifetime warranty for replacements! I have absolutely zero orange peel on mine. I also have an SGP anti fingerprint laying around I haven't used yet. Seems like the feel of it will be nice but the dimmer screen and less protection b/c its a static application basically as opposed to the wet one XO uses.

HTC said they would change the screen for $75, im gonna give this a try before since its a billion small ones nothing like superrrrrr deep and the XO is cheaper

I think if I were going to go to the beach with my phone, I'd stick it in a ziploc bag. I just did a little test with my sandwich bag from lunch, and the screen works fine through the bag (same idea as a screen protector, I guess!).

And the bag should keep all the sand and water out of the phone!

My brother-in-law once yelled at me for dropping his Q in the sand at the beach. It had started to rain and we gathered everything up and were heading back to the truck. I had the phones (his Q and my Hint) inside a towel. I was losing my grip and shifted things around. The phone tumbled out of the towel and hit the ground. My Hint had a screen protector and a clear case on it. His Q, much pricier than my Hint, was naked. Other than sand in the charging ports, both phones survived just fine. He still yelled at me, though.

If he'd had at least a screen protector on it, he might not have had a heart attack.

For Disney, I pack the phone and the digital cameras into ziploc bags inside the backpack. Then, if we end up getting soaked on a water ride, the phones and cameras are safe.

You know what they say about an ounce of protection....

(Which coincedentally applies to both of the OP's situations....)
