hiya, anyone had this? I'm on T-Mobile but i think its an unlocked desire.
I upgraded last night to 2.2 and got my first phone call this afternoon. The ringtone was a bit weird - it was one of my voicemails from Hullomail playing!!!!!!!

Very odd indeed.

I've since changed my default ringtone and notifer tones, but any ideas?

How did you get the 1.23 update - Im on virgin and still on 1.15.

Thanks

1.15 is branded and 1.21 is unbranded so I should have access to the update. Thing is I don't.

(Oh just to add my build number in full is 1.21.405.2 the 405 part of the build number reinforces my belief that this is a generic HTC Euro zone build and therefore should be updating. Unless the revision installed has had the server it questions tweaked so as to revert to a Virgin ROM at a later date as the handsets were flying out that quickly they didn't have time to fully customise and brand the one on there.)

Ok here's my story of the T-mobile UK Branded HTC Desire going to 2.2

I used this thread and thanks to SJamG http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/67098-how-flash-debrand-your-desire.html

Followed it easily everything worked, lot's of reboots and more updates, defo need WIFI makes it quicker. the other desire is still downloading.

I've had a few hours with the 1st Desire which has been moved to Andriod HTC 2.2 and here is my findings.

1 - Defo good HD 720p (1280 x 720) the quality is nice.
2 - Speed of the phone and doing thing is better (it was quick anyway)
3 - New sms app is appealing, works very well.
4 - Email (push mail to exchange server 2003) is working quickly and so far likes to
not send emails out of peak time. (given it some heavey testing)
5 - Browser is quick to load and processes pages quickly (using 3g)
6 - wifi is much nicer finds, and uses it quickly. I have 7 routers here and connects
to each one easily.
7 - bluetooth works a lot better with my Parrot carkit ck3200, ALL contacts now
sync with photo.
8 - Battery life seems ok given the amount of hammering it's had from a full charge at
5pm to now at 01:11 it's got 48% left and thats after the upgrade downloads
over wifi (30mb) and playing with it. impressive
9 - Weather shows my town name of Bridlington
10 - Google maps and Navigation works amazingly - seems to render satellite view
quicker.
11 - www.tvcatchup.com works brilliantly due to the Flash 10 player so many
websites work better now
12 - I can now view my own website properly - www.VictoriaHouseBridlington.co.uk
13 - facebook app works so much better and even has an inbox that works
14 - a number of my apps are on the SD-card, they dont install by default to the SD
as you dont get a choice, but you can goto - menu / settings / Applications /
Manage Applications
you can select the app and move it to the sd card - i presume it the app and
not the install
15 - Marketplace works a treat, finds and loads so much quicker
16 - volume of caller sounds clearer and when on speaker phone too - but not the
best, thats hardware not software.
17 - Sky Sports I can now view
http://live.skysports.com/ScoreCentre/football.html so when in town and the
wife is shopping i can check the footy scores live - A MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT
18 - I can do my online banking
19 - all my contacts phone and email have synced from my exchange server
20 - Youtube on 3g is bareable, much better than befoe.
21 - google maps navigation works fine just as expected.
22 - wifi hotspot - turned it on and bang laptop noticed it connected asked for
password (which i had not set) but the desire shows a notification and shows
you the code - simples.
23 - Flashlights as a std app is cool
24 - ebay works well too.
25 - So does msn messenger
to br honest a great upgrade - cant say it was a massive upgrade, but a lot has been fixed, fingers crossed

Hope this was helpful people

NZ user here, this is rather odd, this morning when i started reading reports of 2.2 being out there, i did a update search and found the 2.2 update available, as i was at work and didnt want to tax my 3g traffic i decided to hold off till i got home...now i'm home i can't seem to find the update when searching through my phone :(

has it been pulled perhaps?

Is yours a Euro or Asia-Pac model?

Singapore still waiting.... dam :(

HTC's message did say Euro and parts of Asia. Guess they decided against Singapore. Will just keeping waiting.
I have a feeling HTC is just withholding our update so that their servers aren't so taxed. I see no reason why the Asian Froyo shouldn't be ready right now since the only difference I can think of is the language packs. This is a Taiwanese company after all...

Am I the only one who thinks the keyboard has taken a step backwards? No "hide" button anymore and Exclamation and Question Marks are again hidden under press-and-hold. It's like the keyboard has gone back to 1.5

Any suggestions?

Other than that, the update has a few useful goodies - especially the WiFi Hotspot. Wonder how much data this will chew through a laptop though.

This'll sound really dumb, but I'm going out shopping for my first Android phone today. It's between the Samsung Galaxy S and the Desire (I still can't decide!).

I've seen links to how to de-brand the Desire, but has anyone had any success de-branding the Galaxy S? I assume once you've de-branded the update appears on the Desire? I know Samsung are slow updating to Froyo, but I'd rather not have to wait for Orange to do their thing too.

Thanks for any help. Also, if anyone has any strong reasons to choose either the Desire or the Galaxy S over one another, spaketh now!

Edit: I've just realised this is in the Desire section! Oops! The Desire does seem to have way more support/community around it than the Samsung though, hmm...

Wrong thread, but still - here you go:

Galaxy S - better hardware (better screen, faster GPU), worse software (touchwiz can't compete with Sense, laggy).

Desire - better build quality, sexier phone, Sense trumps Touchwiz, HTC >> Samsung. Worse hardware, multitouch issues in some games, screen harder to see in sunlight.

My suggestion - if you're a phone gamer, go for Galaxy S. If games are not that important - go for Desire.

With both 2.1 and 2.2 I have the option to hide the keyboard, bottom left key with the keyboard icon on it, and ! and ? were and still are long press characters.

Like others have posted I have debranded my desire a few days ago but didn't upgrade to 1.21.405.2 because i lost wifi etc first time I tried it. though after reading all 10+ pages since the update ^^ thought I would give it a go. Inserted my gold card and the update to 1.21.405.2 has worked fine and wifi etc is working on this update now for me. However I have rebooted and still get no update for 2.2, would a factory reset help? I was on Orange i'm unlocked also. Is anyone else still being offered the update to 2.2 at this time?
