Accelerometer compass program thingy?

A friend of mine at work has this program that does a compass and shows how fast you are going and some other neat stuff.
They are gone on vacation so I cannot ask them what it is and I don't really know what I'm asking for since I don't know what this is call???

A compass is of course steam era technology. But something that "shows how fast you are going and some other neat stuff" might indicate a GPS application like 'SpeedHUD', Google Nav, or any of dozens of tracking apps.

Hi thanks for the response.

I guess what I'm confused about is the name of the kind of program it is that I'm looking for.

It's not a compass or a GPS speedometer like the ones I have found in the app store so far. They have an Evo so maybe it's an HTC exclusive? It's much more elegant than SpeedHUD and more so than, like I said, what I've seen available in the app store? :thinking:

Without more info about what it actually does or looks like it's virtually impossible to understand what app you mean. Sorry. You'll need to be clearer.

as an evo owner, i can tell you that i havent seen such an app on my phone. so i would imagine it was a market app.

I found out it was an app in the store and have since obtained it.
It's simply called Compass and has several options to chose from for how the compass looks.
One of them was a digital interface that I didn't recall right.
When my co-worker came back to the office we got it setup.

You may like free 'SendPosition' too, in case you need help changing a tyre in the middle of nowhere. It's in the market.

...and? There's a reason why they're mandatory in all aircraft. Don't assume that old tech isn't still useful today. My car's mirror has a compass and it's useful as well.

GPS Essentials

Another one I like is GPS Status. Doesn't show speed like Essentials does, but it's good for trouble-shooting your GPS.
