Root [ROM] ApeX V1.4.1 for Droid X & Droid 2 - Refinement and Ease of Use (2/22/2011)

Haha, it seems like it's love/hate with the boot animation sound.

It is easily disabled in the toolbox though.

Goodies->Toggle Boot Animation->Disable THX sound.

When I have the phone muted and I reboot, I still get the THX Certified Sound. I love the sound but is that normal? In the past it seems that if my phone was muted I wouldn't get the boot sound on startup...

Also I did wipe cache, but not Data but somehow my Corp Sync Exchange email vanished. I thought that only happens with a Data wipe?

Neither issue is a big deal at all, just sharing my experiences.

I was getting a lot of Wait/Force Closes with LPP+. Hopefully that goes away now w/ 1.4.1. I've tried GoL and ADW but I still go back to LPP+ for some reason..

I just tried that and then rebooted and got nothing????? Any other ideas what I might have done wrong? I deleted the Apex one and also the mp3 in System/Media.... Should I not have done that?

There is a temp folder left in the Data/Local folder with I believe nothing in it. Should i just delete that as well?

It's weird cause with 1.4 i just put it in the System/Media folder and deleted the mp3 file and it worked perfectly. This time I deleted the mp3 file and then went into data/local and deleted the bootanimation and replaced it with a new one and nothing. I don't even get it when I put it in the system/media file either....

The phone reads what's in /data/local before it reads what's in /system/media.

If you deleted the apex.mp3, all it means is no sound will play. If you are using what you know to be a working bootanimation.zip, then it should work.

Maybe the bootanimation.zip you are using is not working???

That was indeed it. Thanks for the advice. Funny I used that same one on 1.4 with no issues.... oh well

Thanks for posting...do you just have to go in to every contact manually and add this as the contact picture or is there a global change?

That would be one way of doing it.

I actually used NinjaMorph to replace the picture_unknown.png in the system/app/BlurPhoneapk drawable-hdpi

The smaller icons go in he system/app/mms.apk for the text messaging app and in the system/framework/blur-res.apk for people on the contacts list with no pic.

Spent the past 20 min going through looking to see which one was right one.... that helped greatly

Thanks...tried it and hosed my messaging app somehow. Good thing I still had the Apex 1.4.1 zip on my card. Wish I'd nandroid-ed but I haven't done anything today really.

Maybe someone will eventually make this a flash-able framework mod.

thanks but what do i do with these? i need help with installing them on phone to work please?

Make a nandroid backup

Use NinjaMorph to replace the picture_unknown.png in the system/app/BlurPhoneapk drawable-hdpi with the larger icon

Use the small icon for the text app. system/app/mms.apk/drawable-hdpi/ic_contact_picture

Use small icon for contacts with no pictures in the contacts list system/framework/blur-res.apk/drawable-hdpi/picture_unknown and ic_pane_unknown_caller.

Again, please...make a nandroid backup before you do anything.

Sure, it can be done. Unfortunately I cannot do it at this time, as I will not not have access to my desktop computer for a few days. But I am sure there are many others out there willing to take on the challenge.
