**If You Want to Root You NEED to do It PRIOR to the Next OTA**

I don't know if there is an RUU for MR2, if not then that would be why it was never updated.
There is an mr2 RUU,and an mr2 pg05img. Its a simple matter of removing the stock hboot, replacing the stock recovery with clockwork, and adding superuser to the rom itself, and zipping it back up into an hboot flashsble pg05img.

Then it needs uploaded, and few dates and numbers changed in the original post, and Wed have an updated guide. I believe worm has hit the nail on the head ;)

Hum...If my birthday wasn't this weekend I would look into seeing if I could do that. Of course your instructions may sound easier than it is...

I may completely be confused but I keep getting the request to update and i keep rejecting out of fear of losing my "free" hot spot. I was told/read somewhere that if i dont update i wont lose it.

At one point the update didnt let me reject so i pulled the battery. Its requesting me again and I think I'm running out of time.

What should i do to stop the update requests from coming in? Do i need to install a new ROm? If so, are there any Roms out there that give me the updates without locking the hot spot? if not, are there any roms that would allow me to keep the current firmware and stop all incoming updates?

My phone is fine the way it is... im sure the fixes are great but i can do without them as long as i keep my hot spot. Once "they" figure a way to lock hot spot then ill consider updating.

My specks:
Rooted
Android: 2.2.1
Baseband: 1.16.00.0223r
Kernerl: 2.6.32.21-gb05544a
build: 1.12.605.6 CL338893
software #: 1.12.605.6

Thanks all!

there is no mr2.5 ruu. "2.5" is what some folks were refering to one of the leak radios.

what you want to do is run 1.70.605.0 firmware, wich is the official MR2(maintenance release #2) update.

you can find the rooted and deodex version here: [ROM] Official 1.70.605.0 MR2 OTA Deodexed Rooted Busybox Mirrors Added :D - xda-developers

youll flash the rom in clockwork recovery, and youll flash the radios in hboot.

the OTA may be similar enuff to your current rom you can flsh it overtop without doing a data wipe and preserve your setup and data, but make sure you make a backup prior to doing that, and realize that if you have issues youll have to go back to recovery and do a fresh install.

if you dont know how to flash in clockwork,or in hboot,id highly reccomend checking post #3 in the http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/353591-how-some-root-terminology.html thread in the root section. ask any other questions you have in that forum, youll get more and faster help than just sticking them at the end of this thread here ;)

I think i know what the problem is... i didnt flash the rom in clockwork recovery first. Yikes! Am i screwed?

No, not screwed, but you may have to reroot. Remove the PG05IMG.zip from your SD card, power down and hold volume down and power to get to hboot. Once there, select recovery and report back if you have ClockworkMod Recovery or a triangle with an exclamation point
