Help Current Bugs with the Bionic

I had this as well and think I've figured it out. I had installed the free version of App 2 SD. Once installed I moved everything I could to the SD card. Soon afterward, I noticed that apps that had been moved would disappear. If I rebooted the phone some of the missing apps would return but others that had been moved to the card would be missing.

I started transferring everything that was on the card back to the internal phone storage. After all of the apps that were displayed were transferred back, I rebooted the phone and opened App2SD back up. Lo and behold, several of my missing apps were shown as being resident on the card. I moved them back to the internal storage and repeated this process 3 more times, as each time I rebooted the phone a few missing apps would surface. I now have all of the missing apps back and am going to uninstall App2SD.

I agree with this. It's similar to my findings. My apps that I transferred to the SD Card were disappearing. Once I reinstalled them and left them on internal storage, they haven't disappeared again. I would not really call that a fix though since you should be able to move apps to the SD Card if the app supports it.

I think it needs to be clarified that no apps can be moved to a physical SD card on the Bionic. As far as this phone is concerned, the SD card that gets inserted into the phones SD slot is only usable for multimedia (music, movies, pictures, etc.). When you select "Move to Media Area" in the Application Management menu, what you're actually doing is moving the app to a sort of artificial SD card on the phone's internal memory.

If you look at your phones file structure, the physical SD card is labelled "sdcard-ext", and when you first turn on your phone and check out the SD Card it'll only have a DCIM folder and LOST.DIR . The "SD Card" that apps get moved to is found through filepath "/mnt/sdcard/"

I'm assuming a portion of the internal memory has to be named "sdcard" for the purposes of moving apps and such.

So my question is this: what use does the physical SD actually have? Media? Why would you use it for media when the phone comes PRELOADED with Zumocast, and you could shoot a quick email to Google to get an invite to Google Music? Both these apps are made almost specifically so that you can access your stuff without having to use up memory space.

But I digress; apps disappearing from the phone after being moved to the media area seems to be a common issue. I'm on my second phone right now, and it too is having this issue, as is my girlfriends phone. I'm assuming eventually there will be a fix...there better be. 3.55gigs (at least that's how much I currently have) is horrible storage space for apps. After downloading all my apps...well I won't be able to download all my apps with only that much space...

For the people who are saying we shouldn't be complaining...I say your quite wrong. If we hadn't waited for months for this phone to be released because they claimed to be ensuring its quality, where is that quality? A phone that is causing apps to disappear is NOT what I would be expecting from a "quality assurance" delay. I understand most of these bugs will get worked out, and I would be a lot more accepting of that had I not been told I was waiting so long so this wouldn't be happening.

1.) not everyone has unlimited data
2.) sometimes 3g just isn't enough to stream that movie
3.) even in the 4g fortified greatest city on earth there is no signal in the subway (as per Vihzel)
4.) because it's nice to have some music and movies on the phone just in case.
5.) I'm sure some fix will come out to make it more usable with apps

Yeah there's a major bug.
USB just won't see the internal but sees external memory.
This is a deal breaker don't know why people are so tolernace to these things!
First attempt to connect to PC to restore data from some apps didn't see either memeory locations.
Second time both int & ext were viewable from PC w/64bit W7 OS.
Managad to get my data loaded but no longer see's interal memory.
I've seen many versions of this same problem on other forums.
This by no means is anything short of a huge bug.
My droid one synched to my PC with no problems. I moved all the folders to an external HDD so i can start restoring app data to Bionic and it simply can't be done because it sees it it doesn't see it see's one it doesn't see the other...
Also tried synch to laptop w/V64bit Vista...Droid one no problem...Bionic it might as well be 1972!
This is a rudimentoary function that should work flawlessly...this is rediculous!

Found a possible reason this is happening...It seems that if you have your phone in USB debugging, every once in a while your phone's internal storage space won't show up properly. I hadn't even noticed that I had my phone was in USB debugging until last night; why would I? No phone you get retail comes defaulted in in debug...unless the Verizon sales person takes your phone in the back to back up your contacts up through Verizon's Backup Assistant.

I was able to solve the issue by ejecting the phone from my computer, turn off USB debugging, restarting the phone, and reconnecting it.

Also note; if you turn off USB debugging or switch the USB connection mode (charge only, USB mass storage, PC mode, Windows Media Sync) while the phone is still connected to your computer it pretty much guarantees your phones internal memory won't get recognized. I think this has to do with the fact that whenever you switch modes/disable USB debugging, the phone disconnects itself during the transition and the fact that the Bionic seems to have a lot of issues re-mounting its internal storage, taking unusually long to do so, and in many cases, not even being able to do so. Basically, if the phone isn't able to re-mount during that short period that it's disconnected between switching modes or disabling/enabling debugging, it won't get recognized as it can't mount the memory while it's in use by the computer.

Or at least that's what I'm thinking...I'm certainly no expert on this stuff; I'm really just going off of what I've noticed through experience.

1.) not everyone has unlimited data
2.) sometimes 3g just isn't enough to stream that movie
3.) even in the 4g fortified greatest city on earth there is no signal in the subway (as per Vihzel)

Yeah, I forgot Verizon dropped unlimited data...and your other points are valid; but none of it explains why we can't put our apps on the physical SD. And I'm sure a fix will eventually be implemented, but my argument is that we all waited months for this phone to come out under the guise that they were adding improvements to it, yet here we are with a device that can't properly utilize it's own features. Connecting devices to USB is something that's been around since...well since USB was created, at this point, I'm sorry, but I expect this to work properly, especially considering no other Droid device seems to be having these problems, at least not to this extent, the same goes for the app moving issues.

Don't get me wrong, I still am enjoying the phone a ton, and even with all these problems, I'll probably never switch to another phone during this contract period, but I think we're all in the right when it comes to being frustrated and upset about all this.

Here's a good one. The wifi AP at my work reboots the phone. It's a Cisco/Linksys E3200 with stock firmware. Wifi sometimes says Error and reboots the phone. Leave wifi on and it boot loops (slowly). At home I have an E3000 with dd-wrt. No problems... yet.

No other phones do this.

For what it's worth, I have an E3200 running stock firmware as well and I haven't had those issues with the router or the phone

Okay I have not been able to get the facebook app to work yet. Does anyone else have this problem or know of a fix? When I select "status" in the app to update status I get a force close everytime. It says it has some kind of error with com.facebook.katana

I have removed and reinstalled app as well as done a factory reset and still have the same problem.

Update: this was a problem with my security settings on facebook and not a problem with the Bionic. ;-)

If you guys really want bugs to be fixed, go to the official Motorola Support Forums and tell Motorola about your problems. Real Moto employees read and respond in those forums everyday about issues. It will do a lot more good than hanging out here and crossing your fingers for bug fixes.

Its for this reason I will not root it until I know theres a fix. first bionic volume rocker issue and the last to it would sleep and never wake up. I have had the 4th for 24hrs now and have not expeirenced this issue

My. 2nd bionic. Issues have been battery cover eont stay on. Screen wont turn off automaticaly. Camera shutter lag is extreme.

I have the screen won't turn off issue as well. It's very strange. I have my timeout set to 15 seconds and the screen will dim. But it will never sleep. I thought it was an issue with tasker, since I have some profiles with timeout settings. But it seems other people here have had the problem so I guess it's not.

two things... maybe its only me, but firstly

My call volume is ridiculously low. Even turned all the way up I can barely hear the person on the other end. Does anyone else have this problem?

2nd, this is kind of a small gripe but when typing on my og droid it would auto correct. If it typed "thr" or "thw" and hit space it would know i wanted "the" and i could keep going even if i wasn't 100% accurate. With the bionic it knows the word i'm trying to type but it is the second recomendation so i have to stop typing and click the word. Anyone know how to fix this?

thanks

-music, had no sound until reboot.
-search by name in music wouldnt select the song and had to close out of ap to get it to play songs
-car mount, exiting out of nav mode and pressing home button takes you back to car mode instead of your home screen.
-I havent been able to add an app to the car mode screen. I only briefly tried may be user error
-if you end up in a situation where you lose data and you dont use the browser, mail gives error that there is no data connection until you open the browser and load a page.
car mount takes too long to switch to car mode. My original droid was quicker.

Things that annoy me.
-stock gallery sucks. They made it pretty but it takes twice as many taps to get to the end result and for the life of me I couldnt get the thumbs in a grid just the slide nav. Downloaded quickpic to resolve that issue.
-screen timeout has options for 1 minute, 2 minutes and then it jumps to 10m. give us a choice of something between 2 and 10!
-I can really do without the zoom effects when toggling to aps or closing an ap or what have you. Quick is better than a 1 second long process everytime.
Email, the original droid was very easy to setup multiple email accounts. It was obvious. I havent really tried yet on this phone but so far its not as obvious ...

In the end I think im going to be forced to root even though Im happy with the hardware itself, Some of my frustration is relearning where the buttons are as some of them are reverse of the droid but the bulk of my frustration is with all the little eye candy transitions that waste my time.

Okay, I may have found my first, albeit minor, bug.

While in the dock, the home button doesn't do anything. Doesn't take me to my home screen or my dock screen. So if I check email, for example, with the phone in the dock, I am stuck there until I pick up the phone, hit home, and reseat. I'm sure it's a gingerbread issue rather than a phone issue, but still...

Grr.
Im assuming this is the same issue I have with the car mount.
Hit settings > exit
and see if that takes you back to your home screen but if you hit home again it will probably bring you back to the dock.

Home screen takes me to Car Dock home every time.
