Root Bricked my Nexus One :(

I'm having the very same issues as MuzikFreakah. This is a friend's phone, and I don't know what he did to it after rooting it, but it had been running just fine for some weeks after rooting.

The battery is fully charged, though when I put the phone on the charger, I don't (usually) get the LED indicator for either "charging" or "charged." I know the battery is full because I swapped batteries with a different N1 and that phone showed it at 100%. That phones battery didn't give me any difference response that the original battery.

I can (occasionally) get to the HBOOT menu (hope you don't mind me linking to your images):

But everything I try from there results in the dreaded "locked" screen:

I have tried clearing storage (going to factory default), and did get the message that it completed and it said it would reboot in five seconds. In less than five seconds it shut down and didn't come back up.

I've been trying to get into the HBOOT menu by holding down volume-down and power, and have just seen that holding both the rollerball and power in will get me into the fastboot menu. The first and second tries there worked, but I haven't tried again yet (waiting for more files to download).

I've tried renaming multiple ROMs (CM 5, some others, stock (I think)) as update.zip and they aren't found. I've checked the md5 sum on at least CM 5 and a couple others.

I've redownloaded Rusty!'s file and renamed it passimg.zip, but now I can't boot into recovery or fastboot. It seems to me that there is a capacitor in the phone that charges while the battery is in, and as long as that cap is above a give threshold, I can't boot. But, if I leave the battery out long enough (sometimes minutes, sometime an hour or so) that I can put it back in and boot on the first attempt.

I'm not using ADB, I'm just copying files to the SD card using a USB adapter. I will go through the ADB setup if I need to, but the first attempt didn't work and I haven't made time for it since because I haven't seen anything that I really need it for. If I'm overlooking something, please point it out to me.

This is a phone we use for our work, and I really need to get it running. Any help?

Right, you have more than likely NOT bricked your phone - try these steps:

1. Load a custom ROM onto a blank SD Card (no folders, nothing, except for this file), using your computer and an adaptor. I recommend Enomther's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614427. DO NOT RENAME THE FILE!

2. SD Card back into the phone. With it turned off, turn it back on an press the trackball at the same time to load into the Boot Screen. Volume down to select recovery and press the power button to boot into recovery.

3. When you are in recovery (looking at muzikfreakah's screenshot), choose the wipe option. Wipe ALL the options.

4. Go back a step to the recovery menu and choose Flash ZIP from SD Card. Find the file you copied to the SD card and let it load.......

5. Set your phone up once it has logged into Google and then reboot.

Should be fine.....

I have this same issue. When I turn on my N1, it has the usual boot N1 icon with the unlocked padlock icon, then it continues to go to the flowing N1 boot animation. It goes for a moment, then it pauses, then goes to a black screen, then repeats over & over.

I am not exactly a noob at this, I have flashed my other N1 many times, and never had an issue.

The problem I cannot get around is theres a lack of Recovery for me to get to. I go to Recovery (power & volume down), but all I get is an Android with a triangle with an exclamation point. No options to recover to.

How do I fix this issue?

Any assistance would be most helpful & greatly appreciated.

I had Clockwork & Rom Manager. It was stock. I mad a backup of the stock, and now it seems I have no recovery there. If I hold power & volume up, I can get 4 options, reboot, install update.zip (which it doesn't), wipe system & wipe cache.

So, I'm at a loss here. I need to get this thing back up & running.

Thank you for any assistance.

You could try wiping from this stock recovery. Usualy that fixes allot of stuff BUT.. you will loose your apps and stuff... and not the things on your SD card.

Second solution would be to Flash the clockwork recovery via fastboot. But that is a bit more complicated. Search around the forums on how to install a custom recovery with fastboot. And if you succede try to use the clockwork recovery to flash the backup of your system. You said you did a backup right :D

It's been a long time since I had the Nexus so my memory isn't so great.

Sounds like you need to reflash the custom recovery file again in Fast boot, as it seems like you cannot boot to it.

Once that's done, download a Modaco custom rom for the Nexus which will be old but complete with radio image, then flash that.

Hi
Thanks for quick answwer .:)
I will try this method . -If I will download Modaco file , I have to rename it to UPDATE.ZIP or PASSIMG.ZIP ?
Also I tryed to run many UPDATE.ZIP files ,but the phone never starting
recovery process after selecting RECOVERY OPTION .
Always seven vibrations & staying stucked on google X .
PASSIMG.ZIP is always recognized .
So wich from this 2 options I have to choose UPDATE or PASSIMG ?

Right, just to clarify, your Nexus has been unlocked (hence the unlocked padlock symbol).

You need to flash a new custom recovery file using Fastboot (here are the instructions How To: Load a Custom ROM on the Nexus One (Updated 1.11.10) | TheUnlockr.

Don't rename any ZIP files unless the instructions tells you to!

Flash a Modaco ROM from here, once you can access the Custom Recovery image (AnomRA if I remember) 03/Mar Gr26 - MoDaCo Custom ROM for Nexus One with Online Kitchen (2.3.3 / GRI54) - Android @ MoDaCo

Hope that works for you.......

I already tryed update system ,boot, recovery from FRG83 image format file .
Everything was successfully updated from fastboot flash .
Before and after I do this , I try to update RADIO.IMG with version 5.12 and 4....... .after successfully upload file , wich was in green color line on phone screen , its changing to brown & making second step WRITING .
So on this part of update phone always vibrate seven times ,and is freezing in almst done process somewhere in 90% or more.
So at the time I cannot update RADIO .
After all , I have same result when I want make recovery ,phone vibrating seven times & frozing on google X.
Any idea about fix uploading RADIO.IMG ?
Thank You Very Much for your help !!!

I don't know why you keep trying to flash FRG83 image file (which I think is Superboot - this gives you root which you have already got?!?)??

If my you have a rooted phone which I think you have, all you should need to do is follow my earlier two links! Flash custom recovery and a new ZIP rom file.

If you have buggered your phone by keep flashing radio images (which is pretty much the only way you can brick your phone by the way!), you have only yourself to blame.

If you get a custom recovery installed and can flash the complete custom rom from Modaco (which as it happens, includes a Radio image in the ZIP file), that I think is the best way out of your problems.

Hi
After many tryes and many hours spended on this phone ,I can say
-My nexus have probably hardware problem .
Somewhwere i read about CPU overheating problem.
Last thing what I try to do was put the device to refrigerator & after 20 minutes I start it for first time successfully.
Later I was reflash RADIO 100% success ,all was complet 100% OK .
Every time when the phone was take normal temperature , then phone restarting from itself and stay stucked on google X .
After 5-6 minutes stuck I take 7 vibrations.
I call HTC service ,& they say me to send it to guaranty repair.
The problem is unlocked mode , .If the phone will be unlocked I loose chance to guaranty repair.
Can you suggest something ,- how turn it to locked mode & what image use to load like original .???
THANK YOU for everything .
Best Regards
