Root ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.7 (file system/recovery utility) update 01/12/12 FIXED

No odin does not reboot the phone, the phone just stays in DL mode while odin stops and kills the clock and such,I just hold pwr button to get out of that mode after about 5 -10 mins, yes im running as admin,I always use the odin that comes with the zip,and yes I do have a stock recovery on the phone like the defalt one or sum shizzz,I use pwr up and vol up at the same time...I have noticed at this point though, I did not do a data factory reset the way lord recommended,I did the reset under phone settings and not using the phones default recovery crap,so ill try that next, see if that "shot in the dark" does it, and thanks for the grilling, ruling things out is good.hope we can get this, its definately something in these forums, just gota find it,and if not we will add it,lol.

edit:eek:k I did A factory reset from the stock recovery on the phone and tried just the "one package" usind just "CWM5027 FOR ODIN fixed" and ops,the one that came in the zip from hroark13 and still no avail,as well as the other zips with odin and the other phone, pda, boot and ops images and still nothing, with the one package method, odin hangs up at:cannot open the usb serial port:code 2,(last time it was code 32)and using the whole ej06 from chin checka and the one from koamajutsu;ROOTED EJ06 WITH cwm, odin seems to get a bit further but still hangs at:MBIB,then destroy.., then kill timer and it just sits there but i can hit start again and it does it all over again,so I reboot the phone manually and research on..thanks again for the help guys,if any one finds some more suggestions Im all ears.

Did you unzip any of the images? I know I had Odin going like 30 times until I realized I had unzipped the tar.

You download load the whole thing and unzip it and you end up with another file that appears zipped but its actually the image

You plug the phone in just like when using Odin,(but with the phone turned on) and pull down the notification bar and select 'usb mass storage' and them your can see the memory card on the computer like a flash drive

Also, cwm is part of the Odin process. Stick.zip just makes sure it isn't deleted when you turn the phone back on (Samsung 'security' measure)

If you odin an image that already contains CWM, like any of the rooted images, the stick.zip has already been applied, there's no need to apply it again.

In fact, you could take a stock phone, Odin in CWM, then use CWM to flash a rom and skip the stick.zip. You can do that because stick.zip removes items from the system that put the old recovery back on the phone. ROMS replace the whole system, so they accomplish the same thing :D

so i have followed the steps up to entering recovery, installing from zip and choosing file from zip, when i choose stick.zip in my files and attempt to install it, it goes through the motions and says that stick.zip is (bad) and aborts the installation, what am i doing wrong?

when you click install after you boot into recovery try disabling check if signed and all that
or re download zip might be corrupt
and put on root of sdcard not in folder

Hung up on root effort of Prevail. Boot into Recovery ( click apply sdcard:update.zip) and get "E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip ( No such file or directory > Installation aborted". Files copied to SDcard when connected via USB. Also accessed Odin Multi and get "detected > disconnected" message. Boot into Download and get "Downloading" and no further. Any suggestions other than throw phone in trash and go back to my Nexus? Thank you. Ray

what are you trying to flash, and don't look in or open the (apply update from sdcard). whatever you put on sd and want to flash will be down the bottom when click on (install zip from sdcard) / then (choose zip from sdcard) / then scroll down and the flashable stuff will say (.zip) at end of each item.

First, there is no reason that I know of that you should be using the "apply update" feature.

Second, if you are trying to root your phone, you will need to follow the directions in this thread.

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...ock-factory-updated-02-23-new-fa19-image.html

I doubt that you have BRICKED your phone. Follow the directions in the link above. If you have any questions about rooting, post your questions in that thread and either I or someone else will try to help you fix your phone.

on my Samsung intercept the recovery menu got a file manager that allow you too copy/move/delete Hella convenient when I flash cuz I don't gotta reboot hella times to add init.d/sysctl/build.prop tweaks. intercept reroots and reinstalls busybox to /sbin on boot so if my scripts to move su and busybox go haywire I can just delete in recovery and root will come back at boot.
I know that don't apply with this phone but still cool feature

*hinty hint hint*

it's car 2.5.1.0 recovery from sdx forum not based off cwm. any chance this as easy as adding few lines in cwm script and adding that menu option?

or should I shut up and stop trying to hack so much at 2am cuz I'm bored

hroark are features I mentioned couple posts up something that could be pulled off on this phone/recovery? I customize my custom ROMs so I might as well customize my custom recovery menu. I remember kouma said he do most his hacking in recovery so terminal feature would be cool.

I'd like some help putting together an update zip or tar to integrate these into my recovery menu. are you able/willing to show me how I might accomplish this? I can talk to folks on sdx-developers where my intercept is supported but I need someone experienced to tell me how dumb I am and fix my mistakes so my phone don't blow up
I use XP 32 bit but I've messed around with Ubuntu a bit in the past and can get that back up and running if needed
I haven't looked into how to do this yet because I know this dangerous.is this kind of thing testable in AVD to keep my phone safe? then I can at least get something started on my own to test and get looked over and approved before try

I did not add the menu options and such in CWM, they are all standard, Koush made them

the only thing I did for CWM is modify a board config file that has info about the prevail partitions and other hardware settings

what you need to do is find out if this recovery you want to build has available source code, and if it does, learn how to build it

you will need a Linux box, and Ubunto will be fine

as far as me adding features to CWM, that is way above my level of experience, I am not a programmer

No, you need to find out if that recovery you have on your other phone is able to be on other devices, and if the source code is available, if it is how to modify there source code to make the recovery work with a Prevail

What level of experience do you have with programming and what programming languages do you know?

If you want to learn how to build recoveries for Android phones, the first thing you will need to do is build an Android build environment

Initializing a Build Environment | Android Open Source

and then you can try Koush's guide on how to build CWM
