come on people let's be realistic, BOTH phones are amazing devices but until the day that the iPhone becomes available on other carriers, this comparison is useless. I WILL NEVER GO TO AT&T, therefore the EVO is the best device for me. There are so many people who are so stuck on iWare that they blind themselves to drawbacks of the iPhone (reception) and it doesn't matter because they are so hard up for anything Apple they will tolerate bad service just to have that cute phone in their hands. When the day comes that these phones are available on the same carrier, that's when we should start comparing. In the meantime I'm going 2 enjoy my EVO because in reality, the iPhone does NOT exist in my world.

Can someone please tell Steve Jobs that our EVO's already have a front facing camera and video chat. Not only on wi-fi but on 3g and 4g as well. Also can skype to a pc. So how can he claim to be the first to bring such a feature to us and it is the best experience out there?

I can video call from anywhere! Sorry iphone users, you need to be in your house to use your wi-fi, or at a starbucks or something...lol

Might as well just use your computer if you need wi-fi and you are home.....On top of it, you need to make sure your friend owns an iPhone 4. On top of that you need to call them and make sure they can be somwhere that has wi-fi.

Explain to me how this is innovative again???

I also love how they claim it is bringing this great feature of multi-tasking to the game. Give me a break. I was multi-tasking like 10 years ago on my first WM device I owned. They aren't brining anything new here but they market like it is another innovation from Apple. What it is is something that should have been released on the first iPhone as it is pretty much a standard on these types of devices.

They do a good job of making people believe they need this thing and everything it does is only done on an iPhone and no other device.

Unfortunately, most people do not believe in educating themselves and when someone else takes the time to educate them based on there own opinion, and obviously financial vested interest, people just believe he is telling the truth. And that is exactly what the iPhone is for. People who don't know better and can't think outside the box! Which we all know is the majority of people in this country......

For everyone else there is the EVO I like to think of it as being truly innovative!

The new iPhone will sell gabillions of them, but here is the problem- It is still on one of the more sucky carriers for coverage there is. Also, new users are going to get screwed with data charges, if they use the video features the device has- much.

I do not see the point of a great device on a sucky carrier. Same with Tmo in many areas. What is the point?

Admit it though folks- if this device was on Sprint- some of you would change your perspective- just like Inc users would if on Verizon.

Think about it- this device on carriers with great data coverage- even I could possibly reconsider.... nah- I still think Steve Jobs is a socialistic rube. Matter of principle

Plus, I like the option of streaming jiggly sites via Flash Not that I do, of course............

BTW,

Rumor is that current customers may have to update to the new data charges for the new iPhone- That will go off well, if true

Exactly, which is why there is no such thing as a better phone, you can only judge it by how many people use it on each side. Sadly, iphone will always be top notch because apple has a much bigger following than any other technology company.

If you want mediocrity, take a look in the android app store.

How many iPhone users do you think look at Giz or Engadget? not many, it's not that kind of platform. Android is though - it's for people who like to tinker.

To continue the car theme (although the universe and his dog knows this is a subject lost on most Americans):

The iPhone is like a Porsche. It's aspirational, looks nice, it's expensive and is easy to use. It's not that fast (comparatively), or comfortable, and you can't really play with the suspension settings to make it go faster. If it breaks, you need to use Porsche parts to fix it. The interior is beautiful, and it's design is iconic.

Android is like a kit car/track car. It's for the enthusiast. It's MUCH faster than the Porsche on a track, and you can tweak the hell out of it. It's not so happy in the hands of a normal driver and needs plenty of attention. It's a performer, and you must be willing to put the time in if you want ownership to be a pleasure and not a chore.

Some people like to spend their time tinkering with their track car - and this is why they bought it. Joe Public likes that it's noisy and fast, but wouldn't necessarily want to own one. The Porsche owner is smug. They just want to drive it around and not really push it very hard. It's nice to look at, and ordinary people want one. Your granny could drive it, no problem. The Porsche owner bought the car for the badge - they have never lifted the bonnet.

The Track car owner is happy. They have what they want.

The i-phone is overhyped, you can do many things with the i-phone except phones calls, plus the EVO screen is way bigger, looks better and the Android market is better.

Poor analogy...Porsche has more "customer race and enthusiast cars" than most other mfgs.

I think the the iPhone is more like a Honda Civic. There's a ton of them on the road, in stock form, it doesn't do much, there's a ridiculously large aftermarket for it, if tuned right it can perform well, but most people just install gaudy body/light kits and fart apps on them.

You Honda comment is amusing. Not as amusing as the Android App Market, but almost.

I have both devices remember - and see the pro's and con's of both. I don't suffer from fanboyism like some.

Yeah, I don't have either, but given that one of my current phones will never support sling mobile, I'll be opting for Android, again.

Guys what is this all talk about, I see you are comparing services and phones, please pick one. I am with Sprint from the day they opened and I traveled all over the country and never had any problems. I am coming from Rim->Pre->EVO, and all 3 phones have there pros & cons. There is no perfect phone, and NOT even the iPhone (any model) is perfect it is just your personal preference to what you want and need from your daily life. Lot of my friends always jumped around from different carriers and always complained, oh they suck here they suck there. And there are people that will use the iPhone regardless of AT&T service, they just love there phone and that is fine. And then there are people who are looking for the perfect phone(no such thing) it has to be perfect for you and just you, HTC is trying to do that with HTC sense, and so is Apple each taking there own path to it. Once the new iPhone comes out you will read how people are having problems with it, if you read the apple forums. We should each enjoy our own phones what ever they are. No need for bashing carriers or phones. If your carrier sucks to you switch dont whine just switch, the grass always looks greener on the other side, until you are on the other side and then it looks just as brown as the side your were on before. I know it is all in good fun but i see here people tend to get out of hand, trying to shove there opinions on others, dont do that, just respect others opinion. What is good for you might not be good for others.

Given that the iPhone 4 has not been released, most are just discussing the feasibility of owning one or possibly the other. Some people (raises hand) are still looking "for their perfect phone", and these may be (2) of the possibilities. I currently have phones on (3) different carriers, so some of us are switching.

The 3.5" screen would make me think twice about it. I am loving the screen size of the evo and it just makes everything more enjoyable to use. Even my TP2 had a larger screen then the new iPhone.

Typing on this thing is a nightmare. It cannot keep up with me. I found typing to be pretty fast on the EVO, but I know from using other Android phones with slower processors that turning off the haptic feedback can make a big difference in tying speed (Settings --> Language & Keyboard --> Touch Input Settings-->Text Input --> Vibrate when typing)

I agree that battery life in the EVO is a lacking, but you should be able to get through a day with moderate use. I also agree that you shouldn't have to cripple the phone to get through a day, but turning off GPS, 4G, Wifi, and Bluetooth if you are not using them just makes sense (I always had GPS and Wifi off on my iPhone 3GS when I wasn't using them)

One thing I've noticed is that with CDMA phones, the battery gets crushed when you are in an area with a poor (or no) signal.

If you really want to get away from Apple then I'd recommend giving the EVO a bit more time before returning it (especially with Sprint's very generous return policy)

I know what the forums states but people starting to bring in carriers in to it, it should just stay what the title says. Thats all what I meant.

There are new batteries coming out, extended and you dont have to change the back plate, 1750-1800 mh for the EVO.

Fair enough, but carrier/network is part of the phone experience, especially if the device can not transfer to another network. Having been on all (4) major US carriers within the past (6) months, I've actually had the least network issues in my geographic region (Mid-Atlantic) on AT&T , using a Moto Q. I'd judge handset before network when diagnosing signal problems however. I think that if the new iP4 antenna works like Apple hopes, there will be "less" AT&T complaints...still wouldn't buy one but I'm sure someone will.

Technically they mostly "all" CDMA, or a variant, but the battery drain in no/low signal areas holds true for all phones.

I have to completely disagree with the battery on the iPhone. I had the 3g for a year and had to plug it in all the time. I rarely had the battery last a full day with normal use. I tried many different ways to make it better and was unsuccessful.

If that's posed to me, I'll take a great phone on a great network. For me, after being on AT&T, Verizon, T-Mo and "Nextel" (albeit with a small sampling of phones), from NC to RI, its been AT&T as far as network, unfortunately the great phone is the n900.

It's hard to chose the iPhone 4 over the EVO, even if it were to come to Sprint, when the EVO beats all the specs of the iPhone besides battery life (small difference), resolution (even so, the EVO kills it there with a much bigger screen) and maybe build quality.

Why would they put that nice 940x640 resolution on a 3.5" screen?? that is probably the dumbest decision they made on this phone.

iPhone: no HDMI, no 4G, no expandable memory, no battery replacement, no kickstand, no flash, no hotspot, much smaller screen. no thanks
