Reading today, I saw where when 2.1 comes, it is so big it is going to have to be taken to the store and flashed to the phone that way.

    Has anyone else heard this?

I apologize if this is reposted but searched and found nothing.

Well, I have no clue how big the OS is on the droid so I can't answer for that, but I do know that on my BB I had to do the update via the PC with the data cable. That OS was somewhere in the ballpark of 128 megs if I remember correctly. Completely different OS though, so I am really comparing apples to oranges.

It's big, but shouldn't be an issue getting it OTA.

    Tethered is fine with me.

    Either way.

1.5 & 1.6 came OTA to the G1 on T-Mobile's network. If you get nothing else from that, know that an OS can be push OTA....the fact that T-Mobile was capable of handling it should speak volumes.

The OP asked a perfectly valid question, just because it included the phrase "2.1" there is no need to jump on them. If you don't want to answer the question, don't post in the thread. Don't drag the thread off topic so it gets locked. The question was asked and answered by post #5, yet you guys kept it in view by posting rubbish for another 20 posts.

Don't complain about the number of threads when you guys are the ones keeping them about on the first page. This topic would have gone off the page ages ago if no one kept posting in it

  8. Two things:

    - there is a sticky about 2.1 and questions related to that coming update

    - the above fact has been posted in other threads about the 2.1 update, by long-time users here and by moderators

Now we have a moderator coming into a 2.1 related thread and declaring it a "valid question." I don't find his question any more valid (or less) than the many other 2.1 related threads that have been locked or at least admonished by, again, long-time users and moderators.

Those coming in to these threads to remind the OP that it's a bit much have been, by and large, following the posted notions of, yet again, long-time users here and moderators.

The length of the thread is not the issue, of course. It's the quantity of these types of threads on the exact same subject, as pointed out by, yet one more time, long-time users here and moderators.

Oh...okay...I'm sorry. I honestly don't care if people want to post 2.1 threads or not. I just get a lot of humour out of watching others freak out over it and then the whole kitten thing. The poor posters who do the thread...I'd rather have my left nut surgically removed than post a new 2.1 thread. I actually think that this one was a good question and one that I discussed way back in January, myself.

Also, let's keep in mind the OP is the person who just 2 days ago, was posting needless topics such as "Quit making 2.1 Topics" and posting dogs shitting because apparently he had had enough of people making "stupid" topics.

To stay on topic, I would like to ask where you read this? I did see that with the testers, the tethered ones went alright and there were some problems with the OTA, but I haven't seen anything about size problems.

OTD, Do you by chance know what the size of those updates were?

No, I don't. I remember that 1.6 was a full OS though and took a friend of mine a little bit of time to download and install.

We need a 2.1 Update Sub-forum, like Root.

I think that would be useful.

It would be specific to the update itself. Once the update is actually HERE, the main forum will obviously still be the place for general questions about the Eris.

But true, a LOT of threads are about the update _itself_. Including this one. A subforum would clear a lot of these threads, just like Root.

So what about people who have filled their phones up with crap? I know that the MR's were between 60-70 MB's...just curious about what the phone does with the temp files while updating.

While this is true, and we are trying our best to keep the numbers of threads down, having 20 posts AFTER the question has already been answered that have nothing to do with the topic doesn't help matters.

There is also a difference between pointing out the sticky in a polite manor, and posting face palm pictures.

My point was if none of those posts had been made, this thread would have already been lost to the ether, fallen off the front page and it wouldn't have been a problem, but because everyone keep posting about kittens dying, the threads hang around.

As you all feel so strongly about the matter, and the question has been effectively answered (to the best of knowledge available) this thread is now locked. Please direct any future 2.1 queries to the sticky
