Root EVO 4g flashed, cant get 3g please help

Hey guys i just got my Evo 4g flashed yesterday, im From Central California, i didnt want to start a new thread on the same subject because im sure theres already alot but i cant find a fix..., hope yall dont mind.well anyways everything works fine exept my 3g, im new to all this but i read that if i dial ##debug## i can see what connection i was using, it says im in 1x, so im not on 3g, im not rooted, is there a way i can get 3g, im on the 55$ android plan..

its running on android 2.3

1X is technically 3G,I flicker between 1X & 3G from time to time.
However,try dialing *228 to refresh your signal to see if that helps.
