I don't see why he would say they don't know what's behind the random reboots. The random reboots are most certainly caused by the last OTA. People didn't start complaining about it really until that rolled out. I had never had any reboots and then I DLed that update and now I have reboots. I never put it on my wife's phone and to this day she's never had a random reboot.
I'm not trying to sound argumentative, but the reboots are
NOT a cause of the last OTA. As a matter of
FACT, the reboots happened on my phone
before the MR1 was released. I'm sure of it as the air I breathe. Verizon has a record of me reporting the issue two days (Wednesday) before the "official" push (it was actually available to users on Thursday who checked for updates on their phone) on Friday May, 13.
The MR1 release however, did aggravate the reboot issue.
Again, that still could mean several things from the conversation with the engineer.
But what within the last ota caused it? They know it was in the last ota but they do not know what it is exactly. If a car manufacturer knows something is causing many of a specific model to crash they don't recall the cars and say well something is wrong they try to find the root of the problem recall for that reason and fix the issue
Again, for clarification, please see my statement above. The reboots started happening before the MR1 release, but were further complicated by the release itself.
I read in another forum that people noticed that it happened with varying frequencies depending on their location. One person said that it never happens while they're at work, but all the time at home. The OTA fixed that location bug, I'm wondering if the random reboots are a problem with location.
I'm outside of an area that has 4G by a few miles but gets really great (full bars 99% of the time) 3G service. If I shut off the (CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto) 4G and switch to just 3G only (CDMA auto PRL), I don't have a problem with the phone rebooting. But if it's got the LTE on, look out, reboot central.
However, in another incident a few weeks ago, I was in an area that had pretty good 4G service and I was using Google Navigation and the phone rebooted. After the reboot, I tried the same thing again, same area. Reboot. This happened for a couple of more times and finally, I just drove away from the area.
So yeah....
