I haven't had a landline phone in over 10 years. Saving approximately $9,000 over that time period seems pretty smart to me.

That's why I bring my horse with me everywhere I go. This way if I have an emergency (like I cut myself while working in the field) all I have to do is jump on my trusty Nakoma and ride to the nearest medical facility. And you thought the droid x was a big phone to drag around.

That's probably a good idea. Horses will work better if you are bleeding out and can't get a signal.

Someone breaks into your house, shoots you in the pocket where your cell phone is and the shattered glass of your phone cuts an artery. Good luck with 911 on that phone.

Aliens start abducting you with their green lighted tractor beam just as you cut your main artery sculpting that razor blade art piece you have always wanted to build, darn it, the cell signal is blocked by the ships huge amount of EMF. You run to the land line and just as you approach the phone your wife dumps a bucket of water on you in an attempt to break the tractor beams grip-Poof! there goes the landline phone up in smoke. Luckily you have your carrier pigeon ready to go with a pre-written S.O.S note tied to it's leg. Your wife releases the pigeon as the alien ship fires laser beams at it-good thing you taught it how to fly in a serpentine pattern-just in case this exact scenario played out, he makes it to police headquarters with only a few singed feathers-help is on the way.

But wait. You are going to DIE if you don't get immediate medical attention. How long will it take the ambulances to moblize from their card game and drive to your house, especially with all the news trucks surrounding the house??

What if the captain is down $1500 bucks and is holding an Ace high straight flush?

Well, I agree in the sense that ANY technology will have some flaws, whether major or minor...but a landline isn't really any better. It certainly won't help me if I'm having my airway collapse in the car. Our VOIP service is certainly solid, but again, same thing.

The problem with this GB radio bug is that it affects both phone and data service. If data stayed intact, I could get creative and use Google Voice to dial out or another VOIP service on my phone via the data plan. But a cell should work in areas where there is service...plain and simple. We live in a well populated area with good VZW coverage so it's really the dropout thing with the radio that's so bad. As much as I love and use the other features of my DX, it *IS* still a phone and should be able to make phone calls. The reason we all pay extra over other carriers IS because of VZW's network being "most reliable". As imperfect as the world is, I do think that in 2011, we should be able to rely on a $550 cell phone to make a call.

Um, actually, I'd die. It's a relatively serious problem.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was told it was Froyo but now that you've broken it down more, it's easy to see my misunderstanding...Froyo kernal, GB files. I appreciate the info and clarification. :)

If someone breaks into my home and shoots my cell phone it's no big deal. I'll just go to the neighbor's house and casually ask to use their phone to call for the medical examiner to come and remove the body.

except you still are not understanding lol...

it is NOT a Froyo kernel...its just the version of the kernel that came with Froyo...kernel and OS are COMPLETELY independent of each other..

I see you are running a non approved device (in Verizon's eyes.)
Tweaking your device in ways that could mess up your phone doesn't help your potential legal case.

Has anyone installed the update yet? It's available on the TBH app and I've seen it online as well. You need to sbf back to Froyo though I believe in order to install it. I'm interested in seeing if it fixes some of those annoying GB bugs.

I installed it but the only bug I've noticed (auto brightness is sometimes too bright unless you take it off auto and reboot, then turn auto back on) is still there.

I don't see why somonebody here would feel the need to attack the messenger. If somonebody relies on a reliable cell phone(and I know several people who do), and if there are bugs then there are bugs. A legitimate complaint and a failure on Motorola's prowess as a software developer...I think that isn't in dispute given the many reported bugs. Even my stock GB on my DX randomly reboots and freezes, to the point where I'm not even using it anymore. At some point I absolutely need an ASOP rom to even have a reliable device.

As a matter of fact this is par for the course for them, my D1 had the same issues.
