hi, thanks for letting me join. if this is posted in the wrong place im very sorry. My HTC One M8 is secondhand and Ive had it for about 1.5 years now. the other day it crashed and ended up in a boot loop. i have tried lots of stuff but to no help. is there a way i can load stuff on to the sd card to fix it. on two occations it has got to the setup screen but errors would not let me type wifi password so had to hard reset.
ive tried hard reset
ive tried recovery
ive tried wipecache/factory reset
ive tried factory reset......seemed to work on two occations but on setup came back with sense input error and google error.
the phone had all the newest updates and was unlocked to any network.
on bootlader its says....SOFTWARE STATUS MODIFIED
LOCKED
SECURITY WARNING
THEN LOTS OF GREEN WRITING.
any help would be great. thanks

It's a second hand phone where the previous owner has modified the software. fair enough, I do that to my phones, but I wouldn't sell one without undoing all mods. Question is, did the previous owner do that?

what does recovery look like? A black screen with a red triangle, or an android lying on its back, would be stock. If it says "ClockworkMod" or TWRP then the phone is still modified (it's possible to undo mods but not remove the warning, so I don't know current status). Our options will depend on which of these is the case.

If you can tell us the software info on the hboot screen that will help if we need to do a full reflash of the software. l don't suppose you know whether this was originally a carrier-branded handset? Oh, and which county did it start life in? This info would help find the night software.

hi, recovery is a black screen with a red triangle which after a while cuts back to bootloader screen. I see no "ClockworkMod" or TWRP.
Ive taken a photo and attached it of the bootloader screen.
thanks

Ok, so it's had its software modified, possibly returned to stock but certainly hasn't got a custom recovery.

So if you've already done a factory reset and it's still looping the obvious thing to try is reflashing it. For this we'll need to work out the cidnum. If you know what country/network it was originally from that will help (we might be able to work it out from the software info in that photo, but it would be easier with that information).
