No. "I trust you to do this work, based on my knowledge of you and your skill-set. With that said, I will verify said work and make sure it meets our collective standards." takes too long to say, but it's essentially what the phrase means.

[most of] The people I work with are professionals, but everyone makes mistakes. By following up and inspecting their work, I am not so much making sure they are doing their job as I am catching little mistakes that anyone can and will make and getting them corrected before they become problems later.

And if it doesn't meet the collective standards, then we stop trusting them... semantics. Oh well, this thirty year-old argument has no solution.

That's just a BS-y way of saying you dont trust them to be competent.

It has a solution. The solution is that the phrase is BS. The logic is fundamentally flawed. No amount of logical meandering/sophistry will change thay.

Well, I've almost finished the bucket. It is not a pleasant sensation, but there hasn't been anything like the horror stories I've heard about... knock on wood. I hope I can turn myself off when I go to sleep.

Such cynicism... Granted, when Reagan said it, neither the Soviet Union nor the US trusted the other (for good reasons) and the phrase was largely rhetoric.

In my case, however, I do trust the contractor to do good work, and they do know what the standards are. My job is to make sure that those standards are maintained throughout the project. So, despite the political baggage behind the statement, my position holds.

Everything came out in the end, as they say. The drugs knocked me out completely and now I'm sorta wide awake. They found four little polyps and one they've sent to the inspector. I'll know later this week if I can continue living.

    World record set, I think:

I am the first person to have a colonoscopy and buy a house on a leap day.

Congrats on buying the house. As far as the colonoscopy, um, I hope everything came out OK. :p

I hope the owning house won't be as revolting an experience as the colonoscopy was!

Home ownership has its ups and downs. When things aren't breaking, it great. When something breaks, expect things to continue to break.:(

Owned a bunch. Own one now, for eleven years and sick of it. But once you've owned, it's durn near impossible to consider renting again.

Judging by the hairstyle and the outfit, that must be Ken circa 1967. :p

I'm more than a bit disturbed that you can identify the correct "Ken years"...
