Help Really Weird Screen Issues (lots of green) Nexus 7

My Nexus 7 started having strange screen issues. Lots of green and some pink. The graphics are clearly messed up but a lot of things still render in correctly.

Here is a link to pics I took of the screen. I will try attaching them but I am new and may not have that ability yet.

Please let me know what could be causing this. Thanks!

I'd suspect a hardware issue.

I'm guessing when you take a screenshot by holding power and volume down and transfer that to a PC, the screenshot is ok?

Good question. I will try it out.

Screenshot came out perfect. I ordered a new main board. Hope this fixes it.

Let's hope it's not a faulty LCD in that case, or even just a bad connection to it. Did you check that the connector was secure?

If the screenshot comes out perfect, but the display is wrong, that would make me think that the problem rests with the display, or a connection to it.

dead GPU, or more likely a problem with the ribbon to the LCD.

Since you'll be tearing it apart to change the board, might as well tear it open now, re-seat the display ribbon, and see if it helps.

After what I found inside my mom's N7, I wouldn't be surprised if the ribbon slipped or is loose.

I ordered a new mainboard and this did not fix the problem. Looks like its probably the screen, the most expensive part.

Having had a quick read of the above, it appears to be a hardware problem. OmenLW's not been back online since posting his last reply, so I'm not sure you're going to get a better answer than that

Thanks D-U-R-X. Yes I believe too a HW problem, since I've done SW related actions, like factory reset, re-boots and carrying latest 4.2.2 KitKat.

It has appeared for past 2 weeks or so. I think it's some kind of connector problem, since it can be "quick fixed" by tapping table back cover few times. But this is not final solution as it seems to be coming back.

I have opened the device and re-connected LCD (or digitizer) ribbon cable and connection cable. It kinda seemed to help a while which makes me believe this could be root-cause, especially if OmenLW had replaced mainboard without success. This then leads to potentially replacing LCD+digitizer, as it appears ribbon cables are integrated.

If I need to do this for my own device, I will report back whether it helped or not.

Hi. I think I found a root-cause. It seems to be a faulty cable which is connecting LCD screen over to mainboard. I replaced that and it's been working ever since for 1+ month. Good luck since this part was appr 4USD in ebay compared to 50+USD for a new LCD.
