Out of curiosity, any FCC approval on this phone that can be verified? It would certainly help to know whether May 22/23's even possible because Evo probably would have to be FCC-approved by now.

I really want the most-likely dates of 6/6 or 6/13 to be reflective of worst-case scenario, but I just don't know. Seems like the units wouldn't be shipped to warehouses now if it wasn't FCC-approved though.

I don't expect there to be much of a lag between specialists being chosen and trained and actual selling because there's going to be no way to keep information from leaking out at that point. I can't see a full week lag so with the 17th being a Monday, I'm still pinning my hopes on 22/23.

Nope, not unless they're non-public due to an NDA or were elaborately hidden and filed MONTHS ago. A few of us have been scouring the FCC (I went back 6 months), to no avail.

I have new "inside" information, the exact release date of the Evo 4G IS Dec. 12, 2012. Ironically you will die 2 hours after picking up your Evo.

But at least my last few hours of my life will have been filled with WiMAX bliss!

*swoon*

I can't believe I just said that.

Still curious then to find out what the name of the phone that cleared on April 19. Wasn't the Incredible but looks like HTC number series PB99400. Seems to have CDMA banding. What other HTC phones for Sprint or VZW would be up for release soon so sitting at FCC for approval?

Think I'm done sleuthing if this isn't it.

It would really make sense for Sprint to sell these in Sprint stores for a couple of weeks before the pre-ordering at other retailers. That would also help them get a picture of how hotselling the phone is before all sales channels are open. Would be a nice gesture to Sprint sales channels too if they got a couple weeks to sell first.

Marketing-wise, nothing could play better than some media coverage showing Sprint stores packed to the gills because it's the only place you can get them at release. ATT/Apple has a way of doing this so no reason Sprint/HTC can't.

We can't lose the fact that this phone is also going to help HTC make it's name as a premium phone maker not just one known for good, mid-level phones.

I was just thinking, on the latest internal Radio Shack screenshot leak, it mentions that they can't reveal any information just yet but that pre-orders will be accepted later this month. Sprint employees have already "leaked" the June 6th date, but why can't an internal document show a pre-order date? June 6th has been leaked out all over the internet so it's no secret, if that is indeed the real date, but Radio Shack saying it can't reveal any information to its employees leads me to believe a shocking May release might happen. Anyone else think that?

So far the vote's pretty even and I only moved the date forward 2 weeks. I thought my reasons were compelling enough to start this thread. Since some of you are not willing to get on the bandwagon, it proves I'm not steering people down the wrong path, unless you're willing that is.

Bill I hope your right brother.... We keep hearing the 6th though. I personally believe it will be a late May release; however if it isn't I'll simply wait the extra week or two as impatiently as the rest of us. We seem to be a good community and hope we remain so once the EVO is actually released and in our hands. Could you see opening a new thread: Official EVO issues & successes or something like that? A new home for those of us that have come to call this site home in a since. I kept up with precentral.net up until the week after getting a HERO, but of course it was time to move on... in any case, sorry for the of topic post just thought I'd add to what I thought the release date would be. :D

I think they need to beat the Apple hype machine to market or are going to lose some sales/accounts from those fellas who have to jump on whatever comes out first.

The flip side to this is that the iPhone is an established brand. This is worth a lot to people. While Android and HTC have had some real success lately, it is not the marketing/branding powerhouse of Apple/iPhone.

They need to make sure this thing works, works well, and works right off the bat. If that means releasing a day before an Apple conference then so be it. Better than releasing a week sooner, having problems and then having the news story be all about the Evo's shortcomings for a week until *that* is overshadowed by the iPhone party.

ND you make some good points.

I guess I just think the phone and service need to work well, but I doubt any phone has a perfect release. Even Apple can't claim bug-free releases? Major bugs will cause negative sentiment, but minor bugs won't as long as fixes come out right away. The Incredible had fixes disseminated within days of it's launch, and that doesn't seem to have slowed it's momentum down. The HD2 had problems and fixes the same way, and it sold out 3 times.

The flipside is that the longer people wait, the more they'll also expect perfection.

I want Sprint to do this right, but speed is a part of that equation too.

I know I'll be opening a can of worms with this post and I might regret it so I'll state this right off the bat: I believe the EVO 4G will release on June 6th (don't have facts, just an assumption of mine) however I'm unbiased as to when the phone releases. It could release May 23rd or June 6th for all I care. Just no later than the 13th.

Okay now on to what I'm going to say. Over at CrackBerry apparently Sprint telephone sales reps (I know, reps bla bla) have told two separate members that the Bold 9650 would be released on the 16th. If this is true, this would be a one week early bump from the 23rd which Sprint originally stated as their intended release of the 9650. Why would they bump up the release by a week after they already confirmed the 23rd? Could it be that they made a last second change to the EVO release date to late May? Just an interesting thought.

I think BB would prefer to have their phone out sooner rather than later too. It's been all over the web so BB fans will appreciate another updated phone. I don't see the 9650 as one that's going to win a lot of new customers to the BB platform though.

I targeted May 22/23 as the most likely date a while ago because it just looks like the best date. Certainly anytime in May would be good, but I think 22/23 gives Sprint time to clear up some of the misconceptions and pricing info, complete training, and set pre-order terms with resellers. More importantly, it gives Evo two full weeks before Apple's WWDC in June where, most assuredly, there will be so much anticipation of iPhone news that Sprint/Evo will take a backseat. It won't just be the hubbub over the iPhone either - there will be even more about whether this phone comes out on VZW.

I don't expect WWDC to result in immediate availability of iPhone so that's yet more time for Sprint to sell Evo.

Would really be an amazing feat if Sprint could pull May 22/23 off as I've always thought Sprint would not release too much info until more about the iPhone and which networks began to come clearer, even if not 100% definitive.
