General What is the big deal with gingerbread?

    Better battery life, it's a tad smoother and they tweaked the audio output a little.

    There were others, but I can't remember off the top of my head, sorry.

    Froyo was the big update, gingerbread was just to refine it and make it smoother. On top of those mentioned above i think Copy and pasting from the keyboard was added and NFC support but that doesn't concern us.

    ICS will be another small upgrade i think which merges Honeycomb with Gingerbread. Then tablets & phones will use the same OS IIRC.
