[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

I just installed CM7 and it's awesome.
The phone is now super fast...what a change!

I just forgot to save the calls log, else i got back everything easily. I didn't have to reformat the memory card, so everything was right there.

Someone should write a little tutorial about how to save and transfer your former data, it would be useful.

Awesome work guys!
:)

I did, but its only possible on the same platform. Cross-platform would most likely led to FC's and other unknown issues.

It depends on where you are getting your apps from. If you get them from shady sites then by all means you should have an antivirus app. I only get mine from the market, which scans the apps before they ever are accessible to the public.
+1 one would only need a av on a phone if they are dumb. Hate if that offends anyone but thats the facts jack!

Safe Alternatives: Amazon, Get Jar, etc.
I use androidPit shop, Appbrain, Market, and Getjar and I believe these are reputable app stores. But these AV apps try to pursuade a person into believing we should try their products to stay safe online as well. I use Norton on my laptop and never had a problem. But am I to understand surfing the net on phone is safe without AV, spyware, and maleware protection? Im not trying to push AV by no means, Im just asking a question. Although Im sensing its a stupid question, I just had to ask. Also thanks to everyone on this forum for making it what it is.

Not a stupid question, i was just responding to it with my idea on AV, based upon my usage. It is understandable that some people may need it if they wander into less than ideal sites. For the average user i see no use for them(anti-virus), but i understand some people may need such an app.

I dont frequent less than idea sites, and I havent used AV as of yet on my phone. I was just wondering if it was necessary to use AV to stay safe. But I trust those who know more than I on this site and wont use AV. Who needs junk running in the background taking up memory, right?

That was the reason i got rid of it, it seemed to only eat battery and slow down my phone. The first few weeks after i got this phone i was a total noob. I had ATK, anti-virus, the works. After finding this forum and doing a little homework i learned what was needed. When the market was attacked, the antivirus apps did not even find them on peoples' phones. You can try it out and see if the apps suite you, but i'm sure you will dislike the lag caused by them. But I don't want you stumbling on a virus and coming back saying "hey but you said."lol You will be fine without them.

Well that at least sounds like a legitimate response. It's not some bs date that never comes. I would still not hold your breath, by the time they do, if ever, update they will probably have a new phone everyone will upgrade to.
My guess is they will drop the reg ascend all together in favor of the TOE, which even tho it has 2.2, its a complete mess of a ROM. And if isaac and pip cant fix it I dont think its fixable.

Oh when we went to look at the TOE for my wife the salesman (complete phone iggit btw) was trying to tell me how great the ascend was n 2.1....

then he asked me how I liked mine....

Well I just told him is was much better after some 'tweaks'.

He stopped trying to act like he knew anything about the phones I didnt already know then lol

He didnt even know wth the TOE was lol.

Well I work at a Metro Pcs Authorized Dealer store and what I am hearing is that the Tapout was a limited edition phone and since they are almost all out we will soon be getting the update for the Huawei Ascend. And to set this right it is not a message from metro,it will be from Huawei.
Unfortunately, if the 2.2 on the TOE is a hint of how the update will be, they might as well not even do it.

on the TOE 2.2 there is allot of Blotware and video if tapout training that messes it up but so far the firmware is pretty stable from my experience handeling it but with the update to the Ascend you will obviously not get all that bloatware just the firmware update.
they/we ripped all the bloatware out on the TOE rom and it still sux!!! lol Huawei/Metro f**ked the code all up.
