Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I'm just being objective that's all, I like sprints plans better so I'd like to stay with them but at the same time the phone selection is garbage compared to the other 3 major cell carriers in the US

See, this annoys the crap out of me. New phones are constantly coming out. It was less than 6 months ago that the Droid was out. It was 4 months ago that the Nexus One came out. Sprint had the Touch Pro 2, Palm Pre (exclusive), Moment (exclusive), Sprint had the first US Hero.

Just because the Droid and Nexus One have come out in the past 6 months and surpassed the Pre, Hero, and Moment hardly makes Sprint's lineup utter garbage. Was Verizon's lineup utter garbage last summer when ATT had iPhone and Sprint had Pre? These companies stagger their flagship phone releases because otherwise nothing would really stand out and they would waste too much on marketing. Starting a year or two ago the smart phone market has really picked up and it seems like nowadays there are multiple big launches per carrier per year unlike years past where we all had to wait to see what this year's Treo or PPC would be like.

The fact that I had a great exclusive last summer and am able to make a huge upgrade to another great exclusive just one year later tells me that Sprint is easily competitive with any other carrier.

Anybody post this one already?

HTC EVO 4G - Know Your Cell

No one has posted it but the site is kind of a joke, it's either trying to get traffic from us crazed fans who want to know everything or they are just getting ready to pump more info out when available. The screen shots they use don't even have Sense UI and there are just a couple random pictures of a guy holding the phone.

The front facing camera probably will be useless until you get 4G, the 720p video recording is what I meant when I said nicer camera, the Incredible has an 8mp for still shots as well. The HDMI out is kinda an iffy thing, you have to buy an expensive cable just to use it and if it records 720p like other phones have then it's not something you'll really care about anyway as most have done a poor job with image quality and stabilization. To me if the video capture is just an HD jumpy mess then I sure wouldn't want to play it back on the tv.

Another thing that worries me about the 720p video recording is they haven't mentioned the frame rate it captures at, I hope it's at least 30 fps because the ones that do 20 fps look like crap.

Well, JinCA....I will have 4G from the beginning. Not sure if this phone is as much of a slam dunk if you're not in a 4G area....but it is still quite capable. I saw a video...I believe on Engadget...thats shows video being played from the EVO 4G to a tv. It looks pretty good to me. The front facing cam isn't there just for looks. There are rumors...including a video recently in this thread showing that they are working on something for this cam. At least the possibility is there....and we really won't know until release. But it doesn't make sense to put another lens on the front if it's not with (and for) some purpose. HDMI OUT may not be so important....but the cables at Monoprice are high quality and very inexpensive....so whatever function is provided...it won't be too expensive to use. Once again, it sounds like a promising feature...especially for video streaming...but I'm no tech expert.

I think Bill said it best. Perhaps the Incredible is the phone for you?

You can be objective....and that's what I'm trying to do as well. I ask...why would anyone want this phone over the Incredible if they are not in a WiMax area? Not that all of these things carry the same weight...but I do think the dual cameras, the video recording, the larger screen, the hdmi out, and perhaps even a few other things that I forget....are all perfectly good examples of why this phone might make sense for you. If you decide on Verizon, and the Incredible, more power to you....for me...I'm waiting for the EVO 4G. And I'm gonna have a lower cost plan! :p

On these Qik videos (just posted today) it seems like they're debating how to optimize the camera video capturing.

Were those recorded with the Evo? I'm glad it's still being worked on then because they weren't very good at all, that one was extremely shakey and jittery, the image just didn't look right. They were talking about in the second video how that one was smoother but they said that they wondered if the other one was bad because if it's higher resolution, so was that being recorded in less than 720p?

Trust me that was way less than 720p.

The HDMI out they showed was a movie trailer wasn't it? something that was being streamed over 4G or loaded onto the card and played back onto the tv but it wasn't something they recorded with the camera on the phone which is what I was talking about.

As far as the front facing camera, if you don't have 4G then you won't be able to do video conferencing with it unless somehow they make it work with wifi as well as 4G, it's only 1.3 megapixel so I doubt u want to take a lot of still shots with it and there isn't a video conferencing app for it right now anyway according to the people that were showing off the phone which seems to be what most people say they'll want to use that camera for.

As far as monoprice cables, yes they are good, I use them on my ps3, dvd player and my directv HD dvr so I know their quality. I haven't seen though that they sold the cables that would work with the phone, the mini hdmi to full size hdmi, I guess I'll have to check the site out for that. I do remember when the instinct HD came out that if you wanted to buy the cables for that from sprint or samsung it was like $35.00 for them.

I'm not in a 4g area and probably won't be for a little while, but I definitely want this phone. The screen size, the camera, HD recording, and the ability to use 4g in a 4g coverage area are all reasons why this will be my next phone. The 4g is not the biggest draw for me.
