Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Ok so after all this pricing discussion I decided to take a look for myself. Apples to Apples comparisons can't be made since all the carriers offer different "extras" (or don't offer the extras sprint does). I am also a current sprint customer so I don't know if there are any other charges that apply to other carriers, as I said I just got the basic info from the different websites.

Verizon:

450 min: $89.98 ($59.99 Talk and Text + $29.99 Data)
900 min: $109.98 ($79.99 Talk and Text + $29.99 Data)
Unlimited: $119.98 ($89.99 Talk and Text + $29.99 Data)

AT&T

450 Min: $89.99 ($39.99 Nation Plan + $30 iPhone Data + $20 Text)
900 Min: $109.99 ($59.99 Nation Plan + $30 iPhone Data + 20 text)
Unlimited: $119.99 ($69.99 Nation Plan + $30 iPhone Data + 20 text)

T-Mobile

500 Min: $79.99 ($39.99 Whenever + $30 Smartphone Data + $10 Messaging)
1000 Min: $89.99 ($49.99 Whenever + $30 Smartphone Data + $10 Messaging)
Unlimited: $99.99 (59.99 Whenever + $30 Smartphone Data + $10 Messaging)

Sprint

450 Min: $79.99 ($69.99 Everything Data with Any Mobile Anytime + $10 Evo)
900 Min: $99.99 ($89.99 Everything Data with Any Mobile Anytime + $10 Evo)
Unlimited: $109.00 ($99.99 Simply Everything + $10 Evo)

From these numbers sprint looks to be kind of middle of the pack with Verizon the big winner. ATT kind of suprised me so maybe there is a charge I'm missing. I personally think sprint gives the best overall value for the service they provide. The service where I am is good (plus i will get 4g) so I'm not too upset about the $10.

Edit: corrected att

Android Central posted after the event that Sprint said no 3G or 4G data caps. If that's what Sprint's doing, the Sprint plans are much better deals because you can use Evo without worrying about exceeding data.

Sprint should have just created separate plans and called them Simply Evo or Simply No Data Caps.

Pretty sure AT&T requires a text messaging extra.

And you say Verizon looks like the big winner - do you mean big loser? Its more expensive across the board?

EDIT: Unlimited texting on AT&T is $20 a month, 1500 texts for $15 a month, or 200 texts for $5 per month.

damn

shot down... "not even one day early from July 1" wtg sprint...

that just sent me into I AM PISSED mode..

I am in the same boat. I am going to try to get an early upgrade. If i dont i will buy the phone outright, then keep it for 30 days and then return it.

By then my upgrade will be available and i will buy the phone for the $199 price.

does anyone know if the Best Buy $50 gift card is refundable? i don't want to be stuck with a gift card if i end up buying at Sprint because they have it available first for me.

I don't know the answer, but you may want to see if it is transferrable. On June 4th there may be people willing to give you more than $50 for it if you choose not to use it.

My wife said the BB rep took all my contact information and they will be contacting me before the phone comes in. Since she was first in line (4 others showed up soon after), they said I would be guaranteed a phone when they come in.

I feel good!

Edit: Sorry, I didn't see your update...

Yeah I was being sarcastic. I fixed ATT and it makes sprint look even better.

It is funny that Verizon has reduced their monthly chasing sprint.

But with Verizon you get this narcissistic attitude, tethering is allow on this phone and not on this one. Navigation is ok on these two but not those 5.

You can have skype on these 3 but not on that one except for every 3 sunday in a month that ends in y.

ABout the monthly charge.

Lets face the facts. There are people out there that are saying I am going to replace their home modem with the evo. There are people out there that will do anything to get 3 dollars back.

They will kick, cry, and scream for 33 hours to get 2 dollars from the "man".
What they do not know/care is that money has to come from somewhere. If they use the phone as a modem, that costs sprint and there for the customers money. When they call retentions and cry, someone else has to pay for that.

That is why we are paying the 10 fee a month. I know people that feel it is a life goal to call the cellphone companies once a month to complain. So they can get a credit, a new phone, a reduced charge, or what ever. When that happens their bill is still do, but it is rest of use that end up paying for it.

That does not mean you should not try to get "the man." But when the man jack up the price because too many people are getting him, you need to smile and understand why that is. Today I call back my rep, I said that I was going to skip the evo for aava. He said "why"? I said I did not like the Evo tax, smelled like a mac tax to me. He called around and said I did not have to pay it. And that is what got me thinking. Someone else has to pay for me to get it 10 bucks cheaper.

Anyway, I am getting the phone and i will be paying the tax to have the phone. For those that feel they are getting ripped off, by all means call. But when the next product comes out that is now 15 more a month be soo glad you are saved that 3 dollars.
