Evo 4G vs Epic 4G

It seems that Sprint is doing the right thing for sure. Sprint is giving Evo owners that had problems recorded on there accounts a new Epic at $249 no questions asked if they are still unhappy. Mine is on its way. (an early upgrade more or less) They said they are well aware of the issues and also how few are in the system for repair exchanges that they are doing this on a case by case basis.

Considering that the whole phone is lighter than the EVO and only very slightly thicker than the EVO, then I'm more than happy to carry an Epic around

Sprint will sell out of the Epic in no small part due to the failure of HTC to ship enough Evo's. A lot of people flat out want the Epic (the pre-orders have been closed if that's any indicator of supply vs demand) and a lot of people who want the Evo will gladly settle for the Epic because of availability. People will bitch about the $50 markup now, but when the rubber hits the road, it won't make a difference. They'll probably thrown in a free car charger or something to take the sting out.

If those specs are to be believed, then the weight's within 3 nickels of each other - and I'm not sure there's a dime's worth of difference in the dimensions (in the neighborhood of about a teaspoon and a half in volume).

The Epic is going to sell big to people sick of waiting on Evos or those wanting a physical keyboard.

agree wholeheartedly with your last statement. i much rather have an evo, simply because i think having a physical keyboard makes it look cheap, it doesn't appeal to me and i've always had a physical keyboard. but on that phone it just doesn't look right. but that's among other things i don't like about the epic

but anyways, i've still haven't been able to get an evo. it's going on 3 weeks and now i'm up to 5 waiting lists. so i pre-ordered the epic and will have it on the 31st if i don't get the evo by then, which i wouldn't be surprised if i don't

When the iphone got popular, and I played with it, I decided that touchscreens for a phone were too small to be practical. I hated typing on the touchscreen. Not only was I missing keys, the physical feedback of just your finger sliding around on glass was unpleasant.

With the evo's larger screen, I'm finally able to use the touchscreen well. I think the Evo's screen size is perfect. Large enough to type comfortably, small enough to still be a cell phone.

And even if I can now type faster with my evo (or swype faster), the tactile feedback aspect of a physical keyboard is still very appealing to me, even if I type a tad slower on it.

The physical keyboard is such a personal preference that it makes no sense to debate whether it's better than a touchscreen or not. But the beauty of the Epic is that you actually have a choice between a decent sized touchscreen and a landscape-oriented physical keyboard. I have yet to see how well-built it is, but if it's solid, I think it will do very well.

And yes, people who believe in Androids but are tired of waiting for Evo are going to get the Epic.

Huge k/b attached? 1) It's not huge 2) lots of people want a k/b 3) it's DEFINITELY not cheap build quality.

I just came from a big Sprint store hoping they would have an Epic dummy on display but they didn't. The Sales person said Sprint has totally sold out of the Epics first run and they will only have about 10 on hand on the 31st for walk ins. She did promise they would be getting more in much faster than they did the Evos due to better availability from Samsung.

I don't trust Sprint reps as far as I can throw them. They are installing task killer on people phones and the amount of EVOs was exaggerated after the launch. Of course the preorders for the EPIC are doing well. Samsung hoarded their screens. Screens they promised to HTC for the Incredible. Shady...

How long have you had your EVO for? Are you a predictive text guy or not? Depending on how long you have had the phone it takes the phone awhile to learn what words you use and what you are trying to say. After a week or so the keyboard knows you like your best friend. When you recalibrate your keyboard, that starts it over from square one. So everything you taught it, it becomes stupid all over again...LOL.

Put the EPIC numbers up against the EVO, Droid X, and Incredible. ALL phones are SOLD OUT. And they will continue to sell out. And the Samsung EPIC is already having GPS problems. If you have an emergency and the authorities need to find you. They are going to have to rely upon cell phone triangulation. Forget your broken GPS.

Depending on how long you have had the phone it takes the phone awhile to learn what words you use and what you are trying to say. After a week or so the keyboard knows you like your best friend. When you recalibrate your keyboard, that starts it over from square one. So everything you taught it, it becomes stupid all over again...LOL.

I've had it sence launch, (June 4th) I don't know what's up with it, it makes more errors then it does correcting them.

Is the Epic basically an Evo with a keyboard? That may be big enough to call it a tablet/slate

I preferred physical keyboards, and didn't think I would like having a virtual keyboard. The Samsung Moment made it easy to type with my fat fingers (easier than the Palm Pre anyway). It turned out the Evo virtual keyboard is a great size, but that didn't matter because I'm hooked on Swype.

That said, I can understand why some like physical keyboards. Besides, doesn't the Epic have an AMOLED? The AMOLED screen on the Moment is brighter and clearer than the Evo, and you will mainly notice the difference in bright sunlight.
