I have had my Eris since Nov. and have just started getting the silent call and scrolling to the left when connected to a charger. I called yesterday to get a replacement and ask if these were common problems. (knowing they were). She told me not only had she never received either of these complaints....she checked the computer and neither had EVER been reported by anyone about the Eris.
Geez...imagine that! I hope my replacement will work like this one did the first 8 months.

Welcome to the forums, mom22boys (great user name :)).

Well, that rep is either dishonest, as you say, or very forgetful. The issues with the Eris while connected to a charger are well known, even though not in every Eris out there, still quite well known.

Perhaps she was having a bad day and didn't want to be bothered. :D

Good luck with your replacement phone; I'm hoping you'll post back about that.

I can actually believe that. As has been mentioned so many times before in these forums, reading posts here tends to bring out only the problems with a device, not the praises. How many people would be searching the internet about their device if it was working perfectly? So when someone finds this forum, they already have a problem, so we are going to hear about it.

Add to that, how many DIFFERENT problems have we actually heard about, even here. It tends to be the same ones reported it in a different fashion. And many of the problems are solved with a factory reset, which to ME implies that some misbehaving app was on the phone, which is not really a problem of the DEVICE at all.

When you say "silent call" are you talking about the problem where your phone goes into a total and complete silent mode, even though every possible volume control is turned up? I hope so, because the reps at the store seem perplexed when I ask them about it. Knock on wood, mine hasn't done that for awhile, and only started doing it after the 2.1 upgrade.

In many cases, you are right. However, issues such as the true silent call bug and the trackball screwup are real hardware issues. I've experienced the trackball broken/screen scrolls left issue and had to get a replacement Eris. Another way to look at it is that several of us are here to learn the most we can about our Eris and we happen to have the issue pop up. Those of us who post represent a very small number of the entire Eris population. If just a few of us regular posters get the same problem, then it may be representative of a phone issue with a much larger population.

I think that what we have to keep in mind is that every phone has some type of design flaw that a lot of people experience. I always know when I'm talking to a Moto Droid 1 user when the phone just mutes for a few seconds...their sensor has screwed up and their chin has bumped the mute button.

So me and my wife both have eris's, and we have both replaced them, lol. I had the silent phone bug, and her screen randomly crapped out (no drops or anything, just got these black and colored lines up the center of her screen...)

they are both working ok now. kind of a pain, but replaced without too much headache. no problems with the trackball here. it sounds like the circuitry for the trackball and charger port must be realllllly close, i have heard:

-trackball down doesn't work, but sometimes if you jiggle the cord it will go down
-scrolls left when charging (my guess is that it is triggering the trackball circuit and it thinks your scrolling left.)

seems like someone was more confident in there manufacturing tolerances then they should have been.
