Value of AV apps on the Droid?

Been looking at some of the Anti virus apps on the droid. Which ones are good, and are they really needed?

You really don't need any at all , I really can't see why their is Anti-virus apps on the Market as Android Does not support virus's.....

Mainly for rooted phones or people who choose to install apps from alternative sources.

The Android does "support" viruses, because it allows for open development.

When I say does not "Support" viruses , I mean as in not capible like say a Windows Machine....

Simply put, you don't need them.

Android has some pretty tight security --- that's why we can't have bluetooth transfer yet, or SD Card running apps yet. --At least not natively.


Anti-Virus, in general, is a waste of money. Modern viruses usually disable AV software, or alter the AV software so that it can't "see" the virus anyway. Safe surfing practices will guard against most problems---and in fact, Unsafe surfing practices will easily make an anti-virus software moot. Norton can't stop you from clicking "okay" on something that's bad for your system. The biggest hole in any security setup is the user making poor choices. --That's why some offices don't allow employees to install anything on their PCs, don't let them have plugins, view email websites, and have huge restrictions on what can be viewed on their networks.
