OTA Froyo update failed! I'm screwed!

I just tried downloading the OTA Froyo update, and it failed on my phone. I then tried the factory reset, and the hard reset (booting while pressing home and power), and both have failed.

When the 1 click root came out, I rooted and uninstalled a bunch of unnecessary apps. I'm assuming that this is the reason that the update is failing. The porblem that I have now is that I have no idea what all I uninstalled anymore.

Is there any way to do a "true" factory restore which would include all the bloatware programs required to let the OTA update install correctly?

If the update failed and you are still on 2.1, you can SBF. It really depends on whether it updated the bootloader. If it did, you might be in trouble until the 2.2 SBF file is released (if ever).

I am still on 2.1. I have no idea what the SBF is, however. Are there instruction out there anywhere on what I would need to do?

yeah, the stock apps being removed could have been the issue.

if it DID install the new bootloader then SBF Flash = Certain Death for your phone.

The only thing that I did was root, uninstall some apps (Blockbuster, and City ID come to mind, but I know there were more) and then unroot. Do I have any chance to get the update working?

Matt, yes you can update, but tread carefully.

SBF is a way of flashing your phone back to STOCK 2.1. Look in the root area of the forum or just Google sbf Droid X. It requires loading some drivers and connecting your phone to your computer. There are some pretty detailed step by step instructions out there. I am at work and do not have a link. My recommendation would be for you to wait. The OTA update changes your bootloader. This means you are stuck with only what MOTO gives you.

If you are OK with stock, you can SBF and update, BUT NEVER SBF from 2.2

That will permabrick your phone (for now).

I recall it being stated awhile back, that to flash Froyo builds you would have to have stock apps returned to the device in order to do so.

Either way, just do as it has been suggested, ans flash SBF.

By stock, 2.1 I'm assuming that you really mean stock 2.1 (minus the bloatware), and not the version that comes installed on the X out of the box.

Ideally, I would rather have my phone just be able to install future updates OTA and not have to bother with having to do any of this manual stuff that may brick my phone.

It sounds like that may not be a possibile now.

I'm not sure of the validity of uninstalled stock apps causing OTA failure, however I AM sure that once you go OTA you cant SBF.

I would say, TO BE SAFE, SBF flash THEN update.. But that's just me.

If you cannot boot into 2.1, you "might" be in trouble. If the bootloader was updated, you are screwed.

If the bootloader was not updated, you can still SBF and update.

Regardless, you need to SBF in order to get the OTA to work.

Same issue here, I did an SBF install a while ago and it worked fine, RSD lite worked that, now i tried to install the OTA and it failed during the install and now it seems that it may have changed my bootloader as when i try to SBF it says not compatable version.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLOCKWORK RECOVERY OF 2.2 TO INSTALL OR FACTORY 2.1?

Going on this, I wouldn't touch the OTA with a 10 ft pole w/o SBF Flashing FIRST.

Essentially, if you load your bootloader (Vol Dwn + Camera + Pwr) and it says "Bootloader 30.03" at the top, You may be in trouble.

Yes, I can ONLY boot into 2.1. I never tried installing any of the leaked 2.2 updates that were out there... I just wanted to remove the bloatware. So it sounds like running the SBF (since it reinstalls all the bloatware) and then trying the OTA update should work.

I think that is your best bet if you want 2.2 REAL BAD.

I would personally recommend waiting for Birdman to release a cleaned up version of 2.2 without the bootloader update. Still, if you just want stock 2.2 you should be OK after flashing the SBF file.

My main concern is being able to recieve all future OTA updates. Sure, you don't get them quite as early, but it's a hell of a lot easier to install them that way!

What a PAIN in the Arse!!

On a side note. I made a backup with Titanium and the bootstrap recovery.
Which would be more complete as a restore method? I would assume bootstrap but im afraid of restoring the data would screw up my now very hard won 2.2 update.

My guess is he will stick with the old bootloader until an SBF Flash is out for 2.2. Otherwise any issues with his version and your stuck.

If the boot loader exploit was patched he isn't go to. IF you are interested in modding your phone you need to break away from Moto updates anyways.

To clarify, I was stock 2.1, rooted but update failed about half way thru. I wanted to know how to tell ifbootloader was updated because I can easily flash sbf again but dont want to brick if there is a 2.2 bootloader.
