Sounds like we'll have to depend on the Devs for a 2.3 port.
Samsung on Galaxy S Gingerbread Possibility: Maybe, but Maybe Not | Android Phone Fans
i dont even get how that STORY tells you 2.3 wont be coming?????!!!!!!
It's a non-answer is what it is. Isn't even worth the breath to say. That reply acknowledged that a question had been asked and proceeded to state the obvious things any company would consider, I guess they failed to comprehend that questions require one to actually think and answer rather than just speculate on the chance of thinking let alone an answer. I find the "answer" humorous, in a bad way, like a politicians "answer".
Because the reply is so convoluted that it implies that they have no intention of doing so. They've obviously been working on 2.3 with the Nexus S for some time now. By doing so, they already know whether or not it would be portable to Galaxy S. If for some wild reason, there isn't a single employee at Samsung that would know whether or not Galaxy S can support 2.3, it should take hours for someone to do the research and find out. The response tells me that they have thought about it and have no intentions to make 2.3 available to Galaxy S users. They are already making excuses on why the update can't be made available.
I actually agree with you, this is just giving them a legal way out of the update.
Thanks for agreeing, but I don't get your statement.
Are you saying that it would be illegal to NOT provide us an update? I don't think it's an issue of legality, rather an issue of customer service and customer loyalty.
Let me lay down some facts and you can make your own predictions:
1. Android is owned and developed by Google.
2. Google and samsung have worked on a phone together. (Nexus S)
3. The nexus s is almost identical to the galaxy s portfolio.
4. The nexus s will be pre installed with Android GingerBread 2.3.
5. Also, the nexus s is set to be release Dec. 16th in US.
6. Samsung said at a press conference that their Galaxy S portfolio would receive an update in mid December.
Now let me lay down some thing I have noticed. (not known facts)
1. Samsung probably had Gingerbread for quite some time now.
2. If Google and Samsung worked together, they probably have a deal that their phones would get gingerbread first.
3. Samsung has pushed froyo back and back and probably realized to just skip it since they had gingerbread working already.
4. Samsung is the top android dealer and it would be in their best interest to push out gingerbread first.
5. Samsung never said what update we would receive, only that we would in the near future.
So there, make your own conclusions. I personally think it would be better if we saw gingerbread first.
5. Samsung never said what update we would receive, only that we would in the near future.
Yes. Froyo is coming. We said it'd be here in 2010. I want it just as much (I have an Epic 4g). Thanks for your patience all. #wehearyou
That sucks. I'm still probably going to get it after it is out a few months. Its to sexy to not have. Plus I think the Nexus S is just the way the Captivate and Fascinate SHOULD have been made.
Your best bet is go to here and start reading and learning. They're all listed there. Right now I'm following Axura and Assonance. YMMV.Does anyone know of roms that work on the captivate this is my first android....leaving the hell i went through known as apple and id like to play around with some roms try it out see whatsup
