Root A N00b trying to get Rooted

So I have downloaded Redux 1.2, I now do these steps?

1) download you chosen ROM onto SD card
2) Do all your backups
3) Boot into recovery manually (see recovery section earlier)
4) Choose "wipe data / factory reset"
5) Choose "Install zip from SD card"
6) Once complete, choose "reboot system now"

pretty much, make sure you backup your system after you boot to recovery before wipe (nandroid) as this can restore your entire system to how it currently is.

you might want to partition your sdcard as redux supports A2SD. read the a2sd guide

I backed up my texts and phone book using myphoneexplorer. I did back up using Nand but I didn't "partition your sdcard as redux supports A2SD. read the a2sd guide".

Do I need to partition the SDcard from bootloader and then reinstall the file again?

So far the Redux 1.2 seems to be the bees knees, totally impressed!

as you are using amonRA you can make partitions from the recovery, be warned it will wipe your sdcard so move everything off it before you do it.
you will need to use the convert option afterwards to convert it from ext2 to ext3
then flash redux over the top without wiping and it should see the partition

this will give you more room for apps and you will no longer need to move apps to sd using widgets or tools (internal installtion will install apps to your a2sd partition

Just trying to put the Redux file back on the phone, computer doesn't seem to want to see it.

*Edit - Know I know what you have been talking about enabling mass storeage, found it in the notification bar!*

Have done everything you said so far apart from reflashing.

How do I check that the partition worked OK once done?

while in recovery click on mount storage and you should be able to put the files back on the sdcard as a mass storage device

then flash

once booted into the rom you can download "quick system info" and it will show you the various information there like a2sd storage etc.

turn off the notifications and do not use the task manager for it.

EDIT youve just seen how to do it in the rom, well played for some reason i didnt think you were in the rom

Morning, haven’t had the chance to fully explore the Redux ROM, but one thing I am finding annoying, is how do you add an app to the start screen? I can only add a widget or shortcut? Is this a ROM feature as I may need a different ROM!

The only other question I have is, is there anyway on removing the emergency call button on the password menu (in my case, draw a pattern)?
There’s two reason for me asking this, one is because I hate them because of the chance of accidentally hitting it or something and dialing away and the other reason is that some times my kids get hold of my phone and whilst they don’t know my password, they could hit that button quite easily.

Other than that, looks quite good and am pleased with it. I did wonder why RUroot has a 2.3 version when only the highest one available on the Redux website is 1.2?

If you select "shortcut" what are the options? Is one of them "application"? :)

That sort of thing depends on the launcher rather than the ROM. So Go Launcher Ex offers "application" as a long press option, while Launcher Pro just offers "shortcut", but if you choose that the first type of shortcut in the list is to an application.

Edit: and SUroot is running (stripped down) Redux 1.2 as well - the "2.3" is the android version.
