Root New Droid X owner with some questions.

So, I got my mom and sisters D2 and D2G replaced by VZW today and theyre giving up a couple of DX's. Ive got a question about the roms and kernels.

Because these arent going to be run by me, which would you guys say is the most STABLE ROM available for the X atm? Im looking for something thats not going to be high maintenance, something thats going to get excellent battery life. Doesnt need to be anything hard core, but clean and work well.

Not sure if you guys get your own kernels or not, so feel free to call me a noob. :p I know that theres been talk about locked bootloaders, and thatll be something I need to search, but if there are any kernels for this, which would be a stable one with good battery life?

Should I just leave them both stock? Thanks ahead of time for any help and comments.

stock GB .596 is pretty stable and a lot of people I know enjoy the stability of that. There is also (on the near horizon) Cyanogenmod7, which has dropped, bu isn't finished yet (a few more bugs to work out.)
The question is; what are they looking for in a phone?

- we don't get custom kernels because of our locked bootloader...its impossible to run them...

- as for ROMS...im not really sure at this point...personally...i think stock Gingerbread rooted with some bloatware frozen is the best these phones have run...we did just get CyanogenMod7...but its still very much a beta (GPS, and the camera don't work right yet)...so i wouldn't suggest that yet...

I did my due diligence in trying out ROMs on my Bolt, but I not up for that type of upkeep on theirs. Hence the question. Honestly the biggest worry for either of them is battery life. Is it decent on the X? CM7 is about in the same place on my Bolt so I know how that goes. :p Theyre looking for a phone that works all the time. Not 1/8 of the time like the D2s. Oh, and something that is low maintenance. I dont mind updating roms and what not on my Bolt, but Im not doing it more than once a week on someone elses phone. :p Yes, Im a selfish bastard. haha.

Thats really crappy on motos end about the locked bootloaders. Really dont get why they pull that crap.

there are no custom kernels for us

if your mom and sisters that get the dx are on gb they can flash back to froyo and take the rooted ota leak that we got .596 that is at the top of this page as a sticky, and i personally recommend apex. its the most stable IMO, but they can always run stock gingerblur, nothing wrong with it.

I think Ill let them cruise around with stock GB for a bit. I know my mom will want GOLauncher back on it "Because it has pretty colors" and my sister...well...shes an idiot. Who knows what shell want. lol.

OP imo i would leave them completely stock and not even touch them unless your going to be the one using them. Would your mom and sis even know if they were rooted or not? Do they even know what that is?

Lol. My mom does, but only because I wanted to root her D2 when it first started having issues. My sister? Im surprised she knows how to turn it on. Good point though. I have to do enough tech support for the both of them as is. haha.

Thanks everyone for your imput. I really do appreciate it. :)
