What's the worst pain you've ever experienced?

Physical pain that is.

For me it would be waking up to a cramp in my leg in the middle of night. The only time I've come close to screaming.

Pretty tame, but I've been fortunate not to have had any breaks or anything more than minor injuries.

What about you folks?

worst pain ive ever felt would have to have been one day at track practice, when I was doing a workout at speed (prepping for a meet) I hit a hurdle with my knee and the wood shattered. Because of how i hit the hurdle it threw off my landing and i ended it blowing out my other knee and tearing a ligament there, when my knee that broke the hurdle landed the same thing happened and I blew out that knee as well. my knees almost instantly swelled up to the size of grapefruits and I couldnt walk for a while.

or it would be when i was younger I accidently slammed my toe in the car door and tore away all the skin down to the bone.

For me it was once when my surgical wound had opened, I was bleeding like a stuck pig. I was very near to tears, the doctor in the ER said that I should have fainted from the pain. (I had that pain all freaking night long) at the end of the night, I threw up.

This was also the night before 2 finals. <_<

Worst semester ever.

I crashed on my dirtbike tearing cartilage in both of my knees. Fast forward a few years later... My school had concrete benches. I went to hop over one and slammed my right knee right into the edge. All of my weight went down onto it. Few weeks later I was on my garage floor looking for something. I knelt down being careful with my knee, I put it down on a bolt head which made its way under my knee cap. I screamed.

My word, that last bit made me shudder.

Hmmm so many to choose from. When 8 had a pocket knife stuck in my knee. While in the air force while hanging cowling on the top of the engine. The guy pins me to the exhaust with the cowling after the engine was ran at 100% throttle for 8 hrs. It sounded like bacon frying as my forearm layer on the cone.

Then I had got my fingers caught in a machines belt.

So three of the major ones I can remember so far.

By far the worst pain I've experienced in my life was an abscessed tooth. I dealt with it for a few hours and finally got out the pliers and extracted it. Though the removal wasn't pleasant, it was an instant relief.

Oh my, home dentistry! Reminds me of this hardcore old man that came into the clinic i work at (for something totally unrelated) who told me about the time he had a sharp bit of tooth that was poking his mouth, so he whipped out his metal file and filed his own tooth down. *shudders*

Hit a deer doing 120mph on a motorcycle. I lucked out but there was a pretty fair bit of road rash that had to be tended to. I'll save you the details of this couple weeks following the accident as it gets pretty graphic. Walked away from that one (somehow) straight to the ER and intensive care.

Had a truck pull out in front of me on another motorcycle. Bike slide under the front end of the truck and I hit the wheel/tire hard enough to move the truck sideways. I had enough momentum to carry me under the engine. I had to crawl out and the driver was amazed I was able to stand since he 'felt me impact the truck' and thought I was dead. I walked away from that one and refused ambulance care as I'm pretty in-tune with my body after all the injuries I've experienced. Just sore for a couple weeks and had a hard time sleeping from the discomfort but lucked out big time.

Had a high speed low-side during a race where I ended up hitting the wall pretty hard. That was probably about the 6th motorcycle I destroyed.

Blew out my a knee. It was bad enough that my body started going into shock and I wasn't able to walk for a couple weeks. I walked with a limp for almost a year after that. Needed surgery to repair but no health care so I had to nurse it back to health and rehab myself. To this day it's pretty strong but I can't do squats past 90deg (which you shouldn't really do anyway) and crouching all the way down is also out of the question.

Shattered a thumb by slamming it in the door of my girlfriend's (now wife) car and she actually locked the door with it shut fully on my thumb. When I took the thumb out it was the thickness of the little gap where the top of a car door meets the roof of the car. To top it off I then jammed it a week later under my entire body weight. It got pretty badly infected and took almost 2yrs to heal fully from the various infections and issues. That was quite painful as you have substantially more nerve endings in your finger tips that most other parts of your body.

Had a sun burn bad enough that it caused me to have convulsions and shake uncontrollably. That felt like my skin was crawling/tinging painfully and was pretty torturous. My buddy and I took our mountain bikes up into the foothills and rode for about 8hrs straight and I had my shirt off. Still not really sure what I was thinking doing that.... not too much apparently.

Once when I was a kid I walked across town barefoot to go to the public swimming pool when it was over 100 degrees outside. The entire bottoms of my feet were one giant blister.

Got kicked by a pretty large bull when I was a teenager.

Got shot by a rubber bullet by crowd control during the Bronco's Super Bowl victory celebration as well as my 21st birthday weekend.

I could go into the time I had pretty severe alcohol poisoning but that's more sickness than pain. Involved more convulsions and what not.

Hit by a Honda Accord doing about 30 mph. I saw it coming at the last second and was able to jump to get my weight off of my feet. I hit the hood, popped up to shatter the windshield and then flew up over the top and back onto the ground from about the height of a car. Walked away from that one with minimal injuries and was sore for a few weeks.

By comparison I've had my wisdom teeth out and didn't even fill the pain prescription. My wife has known me half of my life and is still shocked by my pain threshold and I can tell you that that first story above was incredibly painful.

There may have been more since I've had a pretty exciting life but that's all that comes to mind right now.

Aside of childbirth twice...I'd say the 2 worst pains I have ever felt is once when I had an infection in my salivary gland. I was actually dosing up with the paracetamol every 6 hours as suggested and it wasnt touching it I was scaling the walls. I thought I'd bitten the inside of my mouth but when I went the docs she said the gland was infected. And the second was the tattoo I had at the bottom of my back. I actually have 6 tattoos in various places and I would say they niggle rather than hurt when you have them. When I went for the one at the base of my spine, someone said it was like childbirth and I thought she wanted slapping daft cos no pain can be like that - she wasnt far wrong, dunno maybe cos I have a bony spine or what but it was horrible!!

I've also sprained my ankle and broke my arm twice, but those are the 2 pains I remember.

Its a toss up between dislocating both my knees (skateboard accident) and almost loosing my right index finger to a machine (20 stitches and two fractured finger bones).

They both hurt something nasty but its different kinds of pain.

Oh, and a constant nag in my right shoulder. Dunno what happened but about six months ago I was laying on my living room floor and stretched. My shoulder gave a nasty *pop!* and hasn't been the same since. I have some rotational limitation now and need to scratch my back with my left hand. Going to a doc when I can afford it.

My bottom rib was not firmly attached as a kid (it's common), it 'floated' sometimes. Once it caught the rib above it and stuck, pinching all the nerves. I truly thought I was going to die of a heart attack at the ripe age of 16. I don't recall what the name of it is but that is how I discovered I had it. Went to the ER and got a bunch of muscle relaxers, it took days for the pain to go away.
I was attacked by a cat recently (a friend's that I was watching), he scratched my arm and hand up pretty good. Within hours my hand was the size of a softball and the pain was unreal. I've never seen anything get so infected so fast! A quick trip the the Dr. for antibiotics and sterile dressing was in order. I will have those scars forever! I've been bitten by my snakes and would take that over a cat bite/scratch any day.
Broken finger, broken toes, popped knees all hurt too but those two things stand out as true bad pain.
