Gingerbread 2.3 was here, then gone, now it's back

We will as soon as we can. There are some hurdles. Currently, all we have is the patch from 2.3.4 (build 2) to build 3 (the OTA). There's also a patch from 2.2 to 2.3.4, which is considerably larger. Making a coherent ROM from an older firmware mixed with a patch is a ton of work. Most of us feel it's easier to just wait the day or two it takes for us to get the RUU. Breaking that down into a rooted ROM literally takes minutes with the tools we have today.

Once the RUU hits, we'll have a working ROM.

It's not flashable. We'll have something ASAP, but I'm done for the night.

I hope it isn't that long. I've got the final beta version of my ROM based on the last leak flashing on my Incredible right now. If I have the RUU for the official OTA tomorrow, then my final beta gets scrapped. One way or the other, I'm releasing something tomorrow.

Not dumb - that was one of my first searches after rooting and reading this thread for entertainment.

"RUU is a Rom Update Utility, an executable file that checks the phone, prepares it and installs the ROM contained within it onto your handset."

Hello my fellow Incrediblians!

I am joining the excitement of the update! I haven't gotten it yet, however, I've spent some sleepless nights waiting for the icon.

I recently installed a new theme from Amazon Apps...as of right now, I am blaming the theme for the lack of Gingerbread and I am damning it to hell!!!

Ok, so maybe I'm going a little crazy...

A few guys over at XDA have put up rooted version of the update. They're not based on the RUU, but rather, someone who did the OTA, did a factory wipe, then did a Nandroid. This doesn't give you the cleanest boot/system img files, but it's better than nothing. So, if you want to try it out, had over to XDA's Incredible Development section.

I won't be updating my ROM until the RUU is out.

I just backed up every file on SD and internal memory. Sync with appbrain. Wrote down all her homepage setups and made sure I knew all her apps.

We are ready to update and the factory reset expected ahead.

Ok, so VZW has already defied our expectations and gone against their pattern of behavior by (apparently) starting the OTA rollout on a Friday. Are all bets off now, and can we expect people to get them through a holiday weekend? Or are they going to tease us by giving it to a few people (that are already rooted no less) and making us wait until after the holiday weekend?

I just uploaded my OTA file to multiupload.com for the guys at XDA. This is the pure file, I haven't run the update yet.

4.06.605.3 update is hitting phones as we type! - Page 7 - xda-developers

They are comparing it to what they already had, so we should know soon if there are any differences.
