Hey guys, my brother text'd me this morning about the retail getting their display Nexus in. So I went in this afternoon to play with it. I spent a good 1.5 hours on it.

First off, I really like the phone. It's really not big at all compared to other 4.3" phones. I had no issues with the size of the phone. I also like how the screen goes all the way to the edges of the phone. The phone wasn't activated yet, so I could only play with software and local stuff.

Camera - Shutter speed is fast as we all know, but I think most of use are going to end up pressing the screen for it to focus first. Taking quick photos without focusing and simply using the speed of the shutter renders most pictures out of focus and useless.

ICS - I really enjoyed the interface. Seems much cleaner and simplistic than previous OS versions. I had no problems quickly picking up the new things and features.

Exterior - This is one area I was personally concerned with. I thought previous Samsung phones felt cheap and plastic-e in the hand. This phone's materials while pretty much the same, didn't feel so bad. Could be all in my head because of the phone's hype.

The Bug I found - First off, let me mention that the software version on the phone was 4.0.1 and not the supposedly final release version of 4.1. The problem I found had to do with listening to music with the screen turned off. I bluetooth'd three songs and one video over to the phone. Two of the three songs are 320kbps mp3s, while the 3rd song was 128kbps. (backlog on this: the 128mp3 came from iTunes a long time ago and that's what you get from them. I quit using iTunes back in 2007 and starting using only 320mp3s because of my deejaying.) Anyway, when you play a song (Google Music is only player on the phone) whether via the speaker or headphones, music experience is fine when the display is on. Once the display turns itself off or you turn it off, the music begins to distort and skip (skip slightly). All this occurs with the sound enhancer (EQ) turned OFF. If you turn the EQ settings to ON, this problem goes away. I tried this many, many times and got the exact same results. Note, that it did NOT occur with the 128kbps mp3. Also note, that it should not have anything to do with the bitrates being used. I have no issues like this on my Incredible nor on my GFs iPhone. Also, the Google Music store's default bitrate is 320kbps as well. Perhaps this is addressed in the ICS 4.1 and the phone needs to be updated, don't know.

Got a few pics coming, but I've had problems uploading pics the past few weeks.

How was max volume compared to rezound or razr ? Not so much ear buds or speaker phone; but if you just hold the phone up to make a phone call?

Also can you comment on audio quality compared to rezound or razr (I presume your store had both of those as display models) ?

Lat but least what city are you in ? (trying to decide if my local store will have one on display)

How was max volume compared to rezound or razr ? Not so much ear buds or speaker phone; but if you just hold the phone up to make a phone call? First, can't compare to the RAZR because I haven't spent much time with it as it was almost an immediate NO for me. While listening to music, it was pretty loud. I only took it up about to about 75% because that was plenty loud with my $10 Sony earbuds. It was also plenty loud with the speaker in the backroom of the store. I was showing my brother that bug issue and turned it nearly all the way and turned it back down because I thought it was too loud for the environment we were in. I meant to make a fake call and test the earpiece but forgot.

Also can you comment on audio quality compared to rezound or razr (I presume your store had both of those as display models) ? I think the Beats software is tweaked slightly better on the Rezound, but only slightly. ICS has a built-in 5-band EQ which is nice with custom or (about 10)default settings. Pick up PowerAmp or PlayerPro and you've got a 10-band EQ. It will be interesting to see how these two apps sound on the phone.

Lat but least what city are you in ? (trying to decide if my local store will have one on display)Pine Bluff, Arkansas. All stores should have at least the display model which comes in that ICS looking packaging, which has a live and dummy phone in it.
