***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

This sort of thing has never happened with the iPhone...Apple says it is being released on whatever date and it is released on THAT date.

Probably because Apple doesn't announce anything until they're finished testing and ready to go. Unfortunately, Verizon didn't have that option: Samsung and Google announced this phone back in October, mainly because they needed to respond to the iPhone 4S launch.

In retrospect, I think that was a mistake. If anybody is to blame for this messy launch, it's Samsung and Google for announcing too soon. It's now clear that, at that point, the LTE version was nowhere near ready to release, and Verizon wasn't ready to release it. Samsung and Google should not have announced it until it was closer to ready.

I wonder how much of this info is actually real?

I wonder if that internal memo was simply changed to "coming soon" because they didn't like their release date bandied around by all the blogs before they could officially announce?

I wonder how many here are making stuff up about their store managers saying it's been pushed back (you know there's got to be a few; although I'm not calling anyone out in particular because I don't remember who said what, and there could also be store reps repeating what they see on the internet).

I just smell so much BS in the air for some reason.

I call for having Steven and OTD contact their store reps and give us the info they get.

I agree. I think verizon got pissed people stole their thunder leaking all the stuff saying dec 9th without them being able to issue a PR first. If the droid 4 comes out tomorrow we know lte outage has nothing to do with the nexus being supposedly pushed back.

Verizon was kind enough to send me a rezound to replace my 6 month old droid charge (Lucky...I know). Anyone thinking of passing on the Nexus and getting the rezound will not be disappointed. It's fast. The screen is amazing. Feels good in the hand. Beats sounds pretty good.

That said... I'm still getting the Nexus if it's released before CES (I'm going again this year). If not I'll wait until the next big thing hits.

I agree, although my phone call to the local store today was refreshing for me. It was the first time I called and someone actually gave me information. I got his name and number and will stay in contact with him. Even though the news wasn't what I wanted to hear, it was nice to hear SOMETHING.

thats exactly what he said and just passing it along. how accurate his information is, remains to be seen. The second part of it especially.. about the court thing. Either way, he cant sell me the phone this friday anymore. he said he would call me back once they get the go ahead again

There is very little Google or Samsung can do at this point, except suggest to Verizon that this is going to be last flagship phone released first on their network. The logistics of this release was decided a while ago, and it's all up to the carrier now.

Seriously guys, all that hate with Verizon delaying a phone that was "never" given an official launch date is getting over the top. It's obvious that this phone is having major bug issues on Verizon network thus the "delayed announcement" of a release date. It has nothing to do with trying to generate more RAZR or Rezound sales, but rather to make sure a new OS (ICS) works with their network. We already heard about two issues (Volume and now possible USB) if Big Red released this phone on 11/17 with all those glaring issues everyone would be mad when the Apple fanboys come online and make fun of your flagship bug filled device.

Just be patience and let the process work itself out.

Very optimistic, and I am impressed coming from you... and you ruined it ;) haha j/k. I think you're right about Verizon (the first part). They are excited about this phone and the way it has been recieved. They want it to stay that way, and not be dragged through the mud by bugs.

I like to consider myself a realist, not a pessimist. I know how the corporate world works, especially Verizon. They don't care about us, just their bottom line. Also, if they truly are delaying this phone because of bugs over and over again, I really REALLY want to believe they're doing it for the right reasons. I am an engineer and there is no way I would want a product to go out unless it was as perfect as possible. Having said that, at some point Verizon has to bite the bullet and release this thing before it's severely outdated (which still won't happen for another 4 or 5 months).

In summary, they've NEVER announced a release date, so as far as I'm concerned NONE of these dates we've been hearing are true. I REALLY don't think this Friday is happening.

Poster Sputnik71 on Phandroid maybe made the greatest comment of all time:
I have a woman.....I have porn......I have beer. I can wait this out. They cannot break me.
Words to live by.
This. I'm disappointed, sure, but it's not worth freaking out about. We'll have the phone soon, it's not the end of the world. Well put by Sputnik, haha.

I have to travel to Cleveland for the weekend. Leaving tomorrow. I am still hitting up the VZW store on Friday. Whether they have it or not, I will still be sampling all the fine local microbrews all weekend. If I have a Nexus, it's just icing on an already awesome cake.

off topic cleveland brew:

enjoy GLB! their food's not bad either.

and if you're ever interested in making your own beer up there but don't want the equipment, the brew kettle does most of the work for you. you make the recipe (after trying some, of course :) ), brew it, they store it, come back, you bottle it. pretty neat.

Of course, there is one other option. Corporate execs are pissed that their thunder was stolen by whoever authorized CSRs to tell customers the 9th. They put out a stop order, to make everyone think it is delayed, but will re-instate it AFTER the press release goes out, whenever it was originally planned to.

(Optimism hat firmly on, however pretty petty on the execs part if true).

You call this optimism I call it logic. I feel you are correct. Yesterday was a high that even a press release couldn't make it to. We blew their cover and stole the thunder and a PR would just be "oh yeah thanks we knew that welcome to the party".

This morning started 'Operation Diaper Duty', and the execute office said, 'Hey reach out to a few of your sources....don't pick one you like because we are going to burn them but pick someone w/ some credibility we are sending out some emails' and thus it began only to pave the way to a glorified PR and ever one exhaling and the PR stealing the day.

Apple is an exception, but most companies announce products when they are not fully tested. Nothing unusual here with Google or Samsung. And the phone was released in a timely manner, with some bugs, but nothing unusual for a phone with a new OS, and some of them were promptly fixed. Just hasn't been released in this country in a timely manner.

Welcome, and thanks for the info! I do believe the 15th was a guess by your store, the manager I talked to said that he hadn't got a new date yet. Only that he thought it would be soon since the phones are in the store, but again, that is a guess on his part.

Last week a store manager told me that they had RAZR's in the store 2 weeks before the launch. He could have been full of it... but who knows. And honestly with VZW, at this point... anything is possible.

Han, I promise you, I am telling the truth. The email to stores cancelling launch is real. That is all anyone knows. Any of the scenarios I and others have thrown out in the past hour could be true. All we can do is wait and see.

The LTE issues make the most sense, Verizon wouldn't have shipped the phones to all their stores and authorized retailers if they didn't believe it was ready. So a delay at this point has to be from something else, which in this case is most likely the LTE problems they're experiencing. Hopefully they can get everything fixed up today so they can announce it tomorrow and release it Friday. So here's to hoping it's a quick/simple fix!! :)

That is a bunch of speculation on your part.

We don't know why it keeps being delayed.

It very well could be Verizon's own software causing issues, if it is delayed due to software issues.

The GSM version had a few bugs but nothing like the iPhone 4G antenna issue.

I will choose to blame Verizon for the messy launch, we have seen then screw up launches before...Incredible/Thunderbolt
