Root [GUIDE][CTmod] Rooting the Prevail [SPH-M820] for Dummies (written by a dummy)

Did you FORMAT THE SDEXT AFTER selecting data mode?

just the sdext, not the whole card

ahhh.........no. going to go use search and find out how. that's prolly why it didn't work

i formatted the ext partition using cwm after creating it. then changed the setting to data. still no dice. system hangs on the kk screen. oh well, have to get a new card i guess

change to data mode THEN format sdext. (personally i don't see how doing it your way is different, BUT that seems to be the way to go.)

If that doesn't work, then I'm going to bet you need a different card

man thanks for the help! using titanium i have been able to move apps to the card. but i want this tweak so i don't have to do it manually

I'm a newbee with all this, thank you all for the hard work, my phone now works again, Odin rocks, fe16 with root, for about a week, so I just flashed 3.68, never did anything like that before, great instructions, it went "perfect", I read somewhere in the 92 pages that after I did this I could do a restore to get my contacts and apps by doing a restore from my cmd backup and not have to download everything again, would that overwrite what I just did with the rom? After all these pages, I'm just alittle confused, the phone works great, but would like to have the old look and apps back and keep the rom, I know, dumb question, but I'm not doing anything else, installing apps and such until I know what to do, girlfriend wants me to do this to hers, same phone as mine, again, thank you all, it's amazing.

They all work. Just different areas different ones work differently. You can root with that try it if you don't like it just changed to another 1. Also the combination of P R L's makes a diff

THanks. I rooted using odin and ended using f316 for now. I am also using ctmod 3.6.8. I am encountering the following though.

so before rooting, I had instagram in my phone with my google play account.

After rooting and using that same account, when trying to install it from google play web (google play on phone won't show it) I get the following message: you haven't accessed the google play store on your device with this account. I am logged in my phone with that account, and in sync apparently. Any way to make it work?

Step eight: Make sure everything is set correctly, and hit Start. Now leave it alone. It will take a couple minutes, you will become concerned and want to mess with it. Resist the urge. Once the phone restarts, and Odin says Reset, the process is complete.

I'm trying to resist the urge but it has been 20 minutes...is this normal?! The clock above the yellow com port mapping box is still counting and at 20 minutes. In the message box it listed about 8 "StartThread Detected:0" lines and now seems stuck at "<1> setup connection..."

Do I keep waiting? <boy I hope that someone that knows what they're doing is monitoring this thread!>

btw... phone still says "downloading" in yellow

Ok, if nothing has appeared in the box you're PROBABLY safe to unplug the phone and try a different usb port. I have had trouble with com21 and has to do the same thing. (now there are always risks associated with using Odin, but if it's only trying to establish a connection and falling (waiting) you should be in no danger)

If you are using a usb hub... Don't...
Connect directly to the pc.

Are you sure you have the drivers properly installed?

Are you using the version of Odin included in the download?

Switching to another USB worked...looks like it never installed the drivers when I plugged into the first port. Looks to be working now! Thanks!!!!

Zombie Caeadas returns from the grave!!

But seriously, sorry I've been missing for so long, I've been really busy with work, and haven't had time to tinker with phones. It looks like you guys have everything under control though, thanks a ton. Also, I want to welcome Vce2005 to the Dummy Squad. (its like the Geek Squad, except you actually know what you're doing)

I'll start trying to catch up today and update as necessary, but it's starting to look like its time for me to upgrade. That Galaxy S2 is looking pretty yummy.

Hi,

have you done the following ( stated a few times earlier in this thread ) :

After installing CTMod and booting up the phone :

1. Settings>> CTMod Settings>>Koumasettings and change to "DATA" and put a checkmark in.
2. After changing to DATA, reboot into CWM Recovery
3. FORMAT sd-ext
4. Reboot

Basically, whenever changes are made to Koumamod, you need to format sd-ext again !

PS: After doing the above and rebooting for the FIRST time, be patient, the first boot could take anywhere from 7 - 10 minutes......... I always recommend waiting at least 15 minutes before taking any action.

Hope this helps.
