Hi there! i am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could help. I am trying to root my Samsung Galaxy S4 (demo unit, built number I9505XXXUAMDE_LLK) on my MAC using MOTTOCHOPPER.ZIP file in the terminal.

I typed in cd desktop (hit enter); cd motochopper (hit enter); chmod 755 * )hit enter) and then I typed sh run.sh and hit enter. I tried to root it but at the end it says FAILURE. Can anyone help?

Hello and welcome to Android Forums martinmrmar! :)

Just a few quick questions before we go any further...

1. In Settings > More > About device > Model number, Android version and Baseband version... and give those last 3 details.

2. Which carrier, (phone operator), are you currently using on it to make calls, data, etc:?

Also - commands and directories are case sensitive in OS X, so "cd Desktop" is not the same as "cd desktop" - assuming that you meant those literally.

There's an easier way. Go to where you can see the motochopper folder in your Finder. In the Terminal, type cd, a space, and then drag and drop the motochopper folder from the Finder to the Terminal, and then just tap enter/return in the Terminal window.

To verify the file status in the Terminal once you're there, use the "ls -l" command (note the space and that those are both a lowercase L).

755 = rwxr-xr-x and you'll see that on every line for the files if your chmod command was done in the right place.

Welcome to the forums, hope this helps with the mechanics, and follow ironass' advice and you'll be square in no time. :)

For anyone else coming across this thread, say, via Google. The OP is describing a Samsung Galaxy S4, "Demo", model. Hence my questions in post #3.

Samsung manufacture a limited number of these solely for the purpose of display only, usually in telephone shops, etc:

These handsets are manufactured without either a modem and IMEI no:, since it is deemed unnecessary to make or receive calls/mobile data, and have no GPS, again, not necessary on a display model. They do however, have Wi-Fi as this can be used in-store for demonstration purposes.

The Build number, I9505XXXUAMDE_LLK, is the giveaway for the GT-i9505X. Other demo Samsung S4 variant models will have a different build number.

In short, these models will never operate as a working phone and at best are a Wi-Fi mini tablet or MP3 player.

As the Samsung Galaxy S5 is replacing the Galaxy S4 in shops worldwide, I expect to see a few more of these, "Demo", models advertised for sale.
