Jackson is still saying the EVO will be released on June 6th or June 13th. My intentions are not to say he is wrong - he might not be. I just believe only Dan Hesse and the higher ups actually know the actual release date and they're not saying. I also believe at one time Sprint was planning a June release, but they forced Apple's hand, and they set their WWDC convention right smack into EVO's rumored release dates. E-I-E-I-O started me thinking about the May 22nd release date and the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like the sweet spot to me.

These are my reasons for thinking the May 22nd release is possible:
.
1) Rumors are saying the phone is ready and is being shipped to warehouses. SP even said it was ready, but they're still working on it. That probably means OTA updates will be downloaded to your phone when you go to set it up.

2) The media blitz begins on May 12th at a NYC event, then continues on May 17th in Los Angeles.

3) The rumored release date of June 6th or June 13th confirmed by Jackson falls right into Apple's WWDC conference taking place June 7 - 11. Releasing the EVO 4G in the middle of that conference would be a disaster, because Apple is going to be getting all the media attention.

4) If the EVO 4G is ready, releasing the phone in May makes sense as far as being able to capture media attention and buzz. It would be the perfect opportunity to deliver a knockout punch.

5) May 22nd makes perfect sense, because the following weekend is Memorial Day weekend and a lot of people will be out of town.

6) May 15th is two days before the May 17th LA event, so that date doesn't make any sense.

7) The weekend after Memorial Day is June 5th which brings us to the beginning of WWDC where Apple will be getting all the media coverage. I can't see a June release.

8) Sprint is the sponsor of the Charlotte Motor Speedway All-Star NASCAR Race on May 22nd. Seems to me, fast cars and fast phones go together.

9) May 22nd is only 10 days after the EVO 4G will be announced in NYC on May 12th. Everyone is going to want the phone ASAP. Making people wait until June 13th would be very painful. We ALL know that. Why get the buzz going, then let everyone down?

We have a forum member I call Old MacDonald, because his screen name is eieio and on this farm he had a pig, E-I-E-I-O. Anyway, you get the idea. He was the one that initially gave me the 22nd date. He felt June 6th and June 13th were dates planted by Sprint to throw off the competition and it worked, because Apple picked the June 7-11 for their convention. That set things up for Sprint to release the phone in May - not June. I would just like to add that eieio is an insider and works with WiMAX. He said he was between a technician and a manager (whatever that is) and I have reason to believe he has one of the EVO test units.
Speculation Post by me:

Just for fun I am going to drop a speculative post like Bill on why I think May 22nd is the date
.

NY and LA are lit up and probably on track for the dates of the Premieres.

The June dates I think where read herrings to throw the competition off

The specs listed are partially true but will be much better than advertised

The device released to stores are not complete devices with full specs, but demos for training and the real specs will be revealed on launch date.

4g is a must for this device to shine.. Yeah the specs are good but it shines on 4g..

4g roll out is going better than expected.

The I-Phone.. The fake dates are so competitors get relaxed or try to plan an offense/defensive..

I have heard from two sources the phone is complete and ready to ship, but they wanted to be prepared for demand and not be sold out. So the units on hand will be staggering..

No BB advance notice, everyone will get it at the same time to avoid leaks to the public..

I have know for a fact that the 4g coverage is greater than advertised.. It might not all be turned on at one time but the roll out is further along than advertised.

As much as the consumer/you guys want this phone.. Business and industries have been pre-sold on this device and wimax services..

Wimax is going to be huge.. LTE is more hype right now.. Wimax is a home run..

Someone suggested in the other thread that we have a poll with different dates, so that's why the change. So far, eieio and I are the only ones going with May 22nd, but everyone has a chance to vote, if you want to.

Reasons why I believe the EVO 4G will go on sale May 22nd

I'm not the one that brought up May 22nd in the first place. Eieio and Self Praise both mentioned that date, but SP later said the phone won't be released until June. This is what my beliefs are based on..
.
1) This week we heard rumors that the phone is ready and is being shipped to warehouses.

2) The media blitz begins on May 12th at a NYC event, then continues on May 17th in Los Angeles.

3) The rumored release date is June 6th or June 13th. That date was also confirmed by Jackson, but this week it was announced that Apple's WWDC conference will be taking place June 7 - 11. Releasing the EVO 4G in the middle of that conference would be a disaster and I highly doubt Sprint wants to release their flagship device during the middle of that.

4) If the phone is ready, releasing the phone in May makes sense as far as being able to capture media attention and buzz.

8) May 22nd is the only date that makes sense. Of course, this is based on the rumors that the phone is ready, but I believe the rumors this week suggesting the phone is already being shipped to warehouses.

9) User Orion: "I think that time frame [May 22nd] would make the most sense. The EVO will dominate the media during that time".

I'm speculating, but I've read every post in the Official EVO 4G thread and then some. Besides that, I've kept up with every news article that has come along since early January, so I feel like I have my finger on the pulse, so to speak.

Last weekend I was saying Sprint would be smart to wait until July or August after the iPhone hoopla dies down, but that opinion only brought me a lot of hate messages. One guy even called me a troll, which I don't think I deserved, but nonetheless, the message wasn't popular.

Since last weekend, we've heard (rumors) saying the phone is finished and is being brought into warehouses. I also learned some inside information that I can't share because of NDA, but it convinced me that July or even August wouldn't be good at all.

Everyone here has pretty much accepted June 6th or June 13th as the release date, but that's also speculation. I'm only suggesting because of the WWDC convention that the release date be moved up 2 weeks. Why is that so hard to believe? Maybe because Jackson said it wouldn't come out until June?

I'm not trying to get people's hopes up and lead them down the wrong path. From the very beginning in this forum when it was dead, I tried very hard to dispel false rumors. Right now, I'm only speculating, but I think I've hit the nail on the head. Don't want to get on the bandwagon with me? That's fine. Don't get your hope up if you don't want to feel let down if it doesn't come true. Regardless, we should know a lot more in 11 days and it will be official and not some crazy prediction.
Bill..you a troll I don't think so. I vote May 22nd and I really hope your right. And thanks for starting this thread.

I'm just saying, some people are calling for a "May" release, but we know that's not going to happen.

It will be released in early June like i have been saying. May is not happening. There is a 0% chance of this.

I saved the older posts from above in case it does come out at the end of May so I can rub it in :p

I've heard from at least the one legit insider who said it'd come out before the week of June 6th which I posted about in early April. As long as it's no later than mid-June I'm fine with that, but I think earlier is the better.

I believe you're the one that way back when told me there was no way the EVO would have HDMI output to an HDTV. You said everything was about the cloud from what I remember. That was you, wasn't it? Just asking :)

I voted yes, because I honestly believe sprint will not mess this launch up. They want both new customers and keep the loyal customers happy. If they want defectors, no new customers, and wasted marketing dollars. They will release in june. Lets face it, with soo many phone being released, they need to make it a week by itself.

I agree and the wimax roll out is further along than expected.. Everyone keeps talking about the specs, software etc.. But its the 4g network that will make this puppy shine

I started another poll back in early February asking: "Have you given up on the HTC supersonic". You'd be surprised how many said yes. At least it got people interested and that's all I'm trying to do here.

Everyone's complaining because there's no new news and I think I've given pretty compelling reason why I think the phone will be released May 22nd. That doesn't mean you have to get on the bandwagon yet, because the official release date is only 11 days away. (I hope) :)

I really like the points you made and it had me thinking that a good way to make their numbers look better would be to release that week before Memorial weekend so all those people that go out of town, get drunk, lose their phone and have to buy a new one.

People always want to have their new gadgets before they go out of town so they can play with it. There will be some that lose it that have no insurance and if they love the phone enough will go right back out and buy a new one.

I will be hopeful and if it does release on the 22nd then it will force me not to wait all the way till Sep for my upgrade (impatient like that). I just got my TP2 in Jan smh.

While t may be better, i have never heard the day of the 22nd ever mentioned, or being circled on any calendars. Also going along with waht eieio has been saying, and seeing that he is very close to the "network matters" i simply don't think the network will be ready as he has stressed that is the reason for the large delay anyway.

Dan has told me the device has been finished and passed through the FCC. Now the netwrok has to be up to par to do it, and it will not be ready by that date i am afraid. I wihs it were, don't get me wrong, but that is a number straight out of the sky...

I voted no, but I would be happy if it was released earlier than June. As a matter of fact, I would finally sleep right the night the Evo comes out... :)
Yeah, I've had a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the EVO. Seems silly considering it's only a gadget, but I'm consumed with it.

Actually, eieio posted his own speculation on why he thinks the phone WILL be released on May 22nd. Don't feel bad about being out of the loop. Sprint is playing their cards very close to the chest on this one. So far, half the voters agree with me and half with you. I'm still sticking with May 22nd in light of recent announcement about the applesauce convention conflicting with a June release for the EVO 4G.

tahts only very recently that he began to actually say that, as the topic has only come up recently. If you look back at his first posts (who knows how far back taht is hahaha) he says that the network is not ready and i could not agree more. Believe Bill if the phone does get released on the 22nd i would be the happiest man on earth. I have been eligible for an upgrade since this morning! how cool is that =] but i just think i would have heard something about this new date. I think i would have heard the date mentioned by some site or dan just in general. Until i do im not getting my hopes up because if its not true it will be the longest two weeks of my life until the June release.

That shouldn't be a problem though as we'll find out about release date on May 12th. I have my reasoning behind this as well. Can;t explain everything right now Bill, but you'll see in less than 2 weeks =]]
