Root Market App Install Issues

Hi folks,

I'm having major problems with the market and I would really appreciate some help. When I download an app, the app downloads fine but I'm hanging on the install. I've had this issue with multiple roms and multiple kernals. I've tried wiping data/cache AND all partitions except SD while in clockwork recovery and installing copies of various rom's directly while in recovery, with no luck. There have been a couple rom's that have let me download and install all my apps fresh but eventually they start hanging on app install as well. I've had this going on for awhile now and it's killing my enjoyment of my phone. Not only will apps not install but I can't uninstall apps either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've tried multiple rom's and kernals trying to see if any would work. A lot of times, I can download from the market while the rom is fresh but eventually end up with the same problem. Another thing I've noticed is that I'm also unable to restore my backups from Tibu now. Apps2sd is turned off, I've tried a couple market fix patches, tried fixing permissions, multiple roms, multiple kernals and have also tried force closing the market. Nothing is helping. Should I be trying to figure out how to wipe everything and start over from scratch? I'm at a loss.

This happens to me also, first go to manage applications and clear data in the market. Then let market reload. If you still get stuck after download, click cancel download and install again, try this a few times, if it still gets stuck open the download folder on your sd card, the app will be there probably downloaded a few times, just click it and either install or update, the app will install, delete the downloads to save space, then clear data from market again and when it refreshes market will now show the app installed.

You can delete apps from the app manager as well,

Thanks for the tips. Still not working for me though. Would a factory reset and SD wipe possibly get me back on track? I don't want to use my app backups from Tibu if I do. I want to start absolutely fresh.
No, wiping your SD card wont fix it.. I think the market in general has been lagging. Mine was doing it on Froyo for a while, but now it's fixed.

Happens to me sometimes. Clearing market data and cache usually always works. Sometimes it seems that it is finicky on either wifi or 3g and if I switch to the other sometimes that will work. Other than that just trying again later.

This hasn't been as much as an issue lately with BB4 and now kangerade 5.0.9, though it has occurred it has happened much less.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I've given all suggestions a shot but nothing is working for me. I even tried the new CM 6 and nothing changed. I'm just trying to figure out exactly what I should do. I need to get my phone to a fresh state but I'm really not sure what I need to do. I've had this problem for a long time now and it's not getting any better.

I am experiencing the same problem. Doesn't seem to matter what ROM I use or restore now. Titanium Backups will not install apps either. Anyone know what is cause/solution?

Also of note...when I try to clear the Market Cache or Data in the Manage Applications, it stays stuck on Computing. Actually says computing for all apps in Manage Applications. Wondering if the Apps2SD function is the cause of this somehow? Corrupt from switching ROMs with apps already on SD?

Exact same for me, FL. All apps constantly "compute" and when I try to clear market data/cache, I'm able to clear data and force close but I'm unable to clear cache. Perhaps this is due to it constantly computing.

UPDATE: Spent a lot of time on trying to fix last night. Here is what I learned...Only a FROYO problem. When I flashed back to a 2.1 rom, Market functions normally and able to restore apps from TiBU.

Interesting note, I cleared my Market Cache manually with Root Exp while in 2.1 and then flashed CG6.0 RC. Worked fine for about 30 minutes and then started doing the exact same thing. Apps2SD was set to Auto by default.

I suspect it has something to do with the apps2sd part of FROYO. Maybe having a problem when the apps where transferred to SD and another ROM was flashed? Thus we get the constant "computing" status in Applications Manager.

Maybe this will help give someone the hints needed to solve this mystery. In the meantime, looks like I am stuck back in 2.1 land.

Well, after trying everything I could possibly think of since having this problem, I had to go back to BB1.1 for a reliable ROM until someone finds a fix for this. I tried almost every FROYO build and just when I think it may be fixed it eventually starts hanging at installing again. I could get it to work for a bit by wiping Market data, then uninstalling and reinstalling vending.apk, but then it would go right back to hanging up again in a short while.

Anyone have any success in finding the cause of this yet? Seems it is an issue on several boards that quite a few of us are encountering.

Ok, back with an update. I noticed that, not only were all of my apps constantly computing, I couldn't mount my sd card via usb OR unmount via my phone interface. To break this cycle, I turned the phone off, removed my sd card and powered back up. Much to my surprise, I went to the market, updated all of my apps (all of mine were on internal) AND was able to download and install other apps from the market. For my next step, I shut down my phone again, replaced my sd card, booted into clockwork, formatted (only) my sd card under "partitions" and re-booted. Once I booted back up, I was able to download and install from the market as if I'd never had an issues. I hope this helps.

I seriously don't want to have to format my SD card to fix this. I've been trying numerous times to go from cyan 5.0.8 to 6 with wiping or without and cannot get the market to work right. It will not dl anything so I can't get titanium back up to reload my Alps aster a wipe. It takes about 20 secs and market freezes up and starts fc all over the place. You'd think after a wipe that things would work right with a clean slate. Cm 6 ain't ready for primetime yet obviously. ..

If you can't unmount your sd card via the phone interface, maybe you could turn the phone off, pull the sd, turn the phone back on, download necessary apps, power off, reinstall sd card and then power back up? You might even be able to do a Tibu restore without the card. I was able to download and install all of my apps when the sd card was not installed. You could power back down, re-install the sd card and boot back up without formatting the sd. The only reason I formatted my card was that, when things worked so well without it installed, I figured it must have been directly sd related. I had the main files I wanted to put back on the card saved on my laptop anyway.
