Help Froyo Bugs and Questions - Post em Here

Hi All, First Post!

Can't seem to find the answer here, so thought I'd ask the question...

History: Bought what I thought was an unbranded Desire from eBay...turns out whilst waiting for Froyo that it was a Vodafone branded one.

Managed to not update to the Vodabloat 360 update, and as an un-messed about version of Froyo looked not to be forthcoming, I followed a guide on here to flash it to a stock HTC 2.1 and then Froyo via manual update from my Goldcard, as there were no OTA updates at that time.

All is running OK, although the process was nerve-wracking! I have however the following questions, if anyone can answer?

1. Will I ever get any more OTA updates from HTC? Do I need to have my Goldcard in the phone when it checks? I presume I won't get any from Vodafone as I have flashed the device. If not, am I restricted to installing future updates manually

2. I don't seem to be getting App update notifications any more- is this a common problem or only for flashed phones, and is HTC working on an update?

Many thanks in advance...

Larry

There will no doubt be more OTA updates for various fixes as time goes by, which you should receive without problems. It's a good idea to have the Gold card in when you apply them, or just leave it in all the time (you can copy your data back to it and still use it as a 'normal' card)

Lack of update notification is a common issue with 2.2, I have the same problem. I'd expect a small update to arrive sometime in the next month or two to address some of the minor issues people have had with 2.2.

Hello. I'm new here, but also into the Android world. I have a problem regarding a red question mark when trying to update the Desire to Froyo.

I just bought it today from the HTC representative in my country, so it is not locked in any network. I haven't rooted it yet, haven't done a thing regarding custom ROM's or something like that. But, apparently, I still can't update to Froyo... Am I missing something ? I'm gonna try again when I'll get close to a Wi-fi spot, but I don't think it's gonna change the situation.

Software information :

Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Kernel version: 2.6.29-0cb9f166 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
Build number: 1.21.405.2 CL174215 release-keys
Software number: 1.21.405.2
Browser version: Webkit 3.1

Not all countries are getting the update at the same time. Since your phone isn't locked and/or branded your country is probably not up for updating yet. Where are you located? Maybe there are users on the forum from the same country who can confirm this...

After updating I cannot stay logged in to many websites.
E.g. Crunchyroll and some forums - This site works fine though.

Any ideas why this problem seems to be occuring after the 2.2 update?
I tried Dolphin HD and Skyfire, with the same results - But going through a proxy makes the websites work.

I did a hard reset before updating to froyo.

Nope. My country, Romania, is in the list. A lot of users from here have had their update. Unblocked, unrooted. So... why can't I ?

I got my FroYo update as soon as it was released in Europe, which was about 2 weeks ago, i think. did you try going to settings -> about phone -> system software update and pressing the check now button? i didn't get a notification that an update was available, but when checking it found the update and installed it.

As I stated before, I already downloaded the update, I was also prompted about it being available, it started installing, but at the middle of that green progress bar, it was a screen black-out, then a red question mark appeared.Therefor, logically, the update is available in my country, I can download it, but it won't instal. My question is why, as I haven't changed a darn thing on the phone, except adding contacts, changing settings in the weather widget, etc, (the usual)...

the only bug I discovered so far is when i go into sms messages and i press a contact to sms with it goes to the wrong contact, but it's not all the time maybe 5% of the time ( and I checked after the first time that it wasn't a misplaced touch with my finger, it is surely a minor bug)

i had this too.

additionally, the internet browser would just whitescreen until i exited or was closing itself completely mid-browse for no discernible reason (although opera worked fine)

plus i was having big problems making calls since the update, often they would not connect at all, no sound, no screen message, calls ended before even ringing

i was seriously contemplating winding back to the last version, but having read through this thread decided to start with a clean slate; uninstalled all apps reinstalled only the ones i've been using regularly and fingers-crossed everything seems a bit smoother now.

calling out seems fine, terrible signal, but then i'm on orange and that's always terrible

browser problem gone completely

hard to say about the messages glitch as it wasn't always happening, but so far so good.

for the record, i've not had any of the camera issues and my music files are fine, but are all mp3s rather than wmas anyway. strange how there's no real uniformity in the nature of problem people are experiencing. could this be because of tinkerings made by different service providers?

i just tried 3G tethering for the first time to send this. couldn't get that to work, but this could well be user-error. :)

How do I get untethered wi-fi on my Moto Droid? I have the 2.2 update.

I would say it depends on if your carrier has removed the ability ( a lot do ) on the Desire you can get to the settings in the same place you set up wifi connections. But thats a Desire using Sense UI, you may be better asking the question in the relevant Droid forum

Done with Wi-fi connection... Guess 3G update isn't reliable... Thanks anyway.

I have the same problem with the video camera. It works if I use Qik, but the camcorder app doesn't work. I've been trying everywhere to find a solution. I've factory reset the phone, but that didn't help.

I also had the same problem. I resolved it by chance.. Went into the Camera settings looking for something that might fix the video camera. I changed the Review duration to no review and afterwards the video camera worked.

So don't know how or why, but it is working now... Very weird...

auto-rotate seems to have changed, it now defaults to the last orientation an application had since last used. so opening it again would disregard the current orientation. for example, if an app was last used on landscape and you hold the phone the normal way (not landscape), when I open the app, it would be on landscape orientation and I would need to shake it just to have it corrected.
this is not good specially on browsing the internet, or the facebook app, or the gallery. not sure what other apps are affected. any way to turn this back the way 2.1 auto-rotate works?

regards,

Hi folks,

After updating to 2.2 on my htc desire, my local phone calendar database has gone, and i can only use gmail, pc sync or uk holidays calendars.

If i'm in my calendar > more > Calendars

I have my gmail account calendar, and pc sync, and if i add a calendar i only have the option to add "uk holidays".

If i got to remove a calendar, i can only remove the gmail one.

Has anyone any ideas if the calendar has changed since the update?

The manual says that pc sync is for the likes of outlook only, or general sync with pc.

any help would be appreciated.

cheers

Hi, I received my 2.2 update yesterday and since then have had nothing but problems :(

My phone has become very slow when moving through the menu's and especially when typing. I can be typing away and the text is 2 or 3 seconds behind on the display. The internet explorer keeps force closing too, it must have done this 5 or 6 times since yesterday afternoon. Anyone know what's going off?

PS I have a HTC Desire if it makes any differance.
