As the title suggests, what color would you go for?

White or black?

Soon I will buy a new device, Sony Xperia Z and my girlfriend will buy an iPhone 5,

I think they are both very nice (black & white), so it's difficult to choose for me...

What makes black better than white and what makes white better than black?

I chose other. I want candy apple red. :)
I like the way you think!:)

As far as why I choose white for most of my phones, I really like to decorate my phones with pretty backgrounds, colored text, etc...and sometimes when you have a colored phone it limits you as to what colors you can use, and what colors look good with the phone.

Long ago I used to wish stereo equipment came in colors other than silver/grey or black, when the amp and equalizer and turntable and pre-amp and cassette player were all separate boxes stacked in a wooden case with a glass door, the speakers, good ones, were always about 36 inches high and were a part of the furniture in the room.

I wanted pastel blue, in particular.

Smart phones in colors with choices like that would be very cool, imo. Of course you can buy cases and covers, etc.. but the stock phones in choices would be nice.

White goods are large objects found in the kitchen. Black is better for phones as it's a more 'serious' colour & things that are coloured are designed to be 'fun' (ie: toys). I think that's why phones are mostly black, the manufacturers want to project serious tech, not toys.

Coloured tech was big in the 80's but was seen as 'throw away', like with toys, we outgrew them. 'Serious' tech will always sell better than 'toy' tech because it's aspirational.

Manufacturers want us to buy many phones so why not design them as throw away? Because they're not marketed as such. Because tech sells better than toys (think: grown up toys?) & we are still clumsy animals :D & tech is much cheaper to mass produce nowadays.
Note that still today, not all phones are marketed as water or shock resistant.
