The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

Even if it's $600 off-contract, I'll probably get it. I mean, it's a computer in your pocket, for cryin' out loud! You get what you pay for, after all :)

Your prerogative but I feel you can get an HTC One or Samsung S4 Developer Editions with stock Android and have a more premium device.

Or even a Nexus 4!

I can't believe Google was instrumental in this phone. It is 2011/2012 specs at best.

Look, Moto makes some very solid phones, in fact every other brand of phone I have had was total crap, BUT nothing with a shelf life of at most 24 months is worth 600 bucks.Besides, even the Atrix line (that was supposed to be the second coming) had it's issues.

I will probably hold off till end of the year now (if the HD will last that long) and see what the reviews are, see if maybe Moto has a follow up that's a bit more WOW than this.

Sorry I jinxed the price yall :(

On the bright side, it means the Nexus is alive and well (maybe?).

Except on VZN... ;)

So what exactly is "game changing" about this phone?

Release it last year at the same time as the S3 and maybe you have a fight, but unless I'm missing something it's the Motorola S3... a year late...

I was actually getting a little excited about this phone with the $300 off contract rumors. I'm happy with my S3, but there are a few things that Moto seems to do better than Sammy that would have made me jump. Designer covers isn't one of them...

Word.

Maybe at 9pm when the OTHER gag order is lifted, we'll find out why it matters.

This from an article sited above ...

No matter: the two product lines are geared toward different users anyway. The Droid line focuses on early adopters with performance and masculine design, whereas the Moto X goes after the mainstream with approachability, personalization and user experience. As Ron plainly put it, "We're aiming for user specs... what matters to the user." 41-megapixel cameras, 1080p panels and quad-core processors will have to wait. Ron assured us higher-end Moto X iterations are in the pipeline, though he wouldn't elaborate on when, but ultimately the specs on those models have to benefit the user. Translation: if it slaughters battery life or offers up an overwhelming array of software options (e.g., camera UI settings), it probably won't find a home in a Moto X device.

so I wait

I think the problem is, Google isn't thinking about us with this phone, they are thinking about the other 90%. Think, a Nexus for us die hards, and the Moto X for the rest of the world. Throw in play edition phones of the flag ship devices, and that's a pretty darn good line up to appeal to everyone. Sure we are disappointed, but I think Google is going to make a killing with this phone.
