Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

I'm sorry for your loss, LW. :(

People managed to get along without Facebook for a long time. Surely somebody could have picked up a phone?

That's what I said to my closest second cousin, M. He told me that he got wrapped up in making the funeral and burial arrangements, and, everyone else in the family - due to this - now have my current telephone number.

Since they weren't able to locate me on Facebook... as I had closed my account there three years ago.

That was my fault, as I had been dealing with homelessness, and the library was the only place I had computer access, until I moved in with my fiancée, and my phone that I had (one of those 250 calls/texts a month phones) got stolen, and all of their numbers were in that phone.

They tried to call that phone, and some street rat answered, saying, "He don't own this phone anymore."

So, happenstance created this scenario. The only person who had my new number kind of 'dropped the ball'.

Whaddya want? He's 62, and takes Adirol for ADD.

You're right, Gmash - it did make me feel bad; yet, the only thing I can do is forgive, and not place my personality over principles.

Thank you for the kind words, @Gmash; and, to @Revenant Ghost - thank you for the 'like'.

I've noticed everyone talking (writing) about Windows 10... Microflop already has our reservation for the free upgrade, and Dell is advertising that their new computer line-up will already have Winblows 10 installed.

When the money is there, I'm going for a MacBook Pro with gobs of RAM... Pro Tools is calling my musical name...

@bjacks12 -

Did you get on the reservation list before your upgrade, bjacques? ;)

We're waiting for the update as we speak... we've been through myriad software updates in the month of July alone... maybe it is preparing to get ready to have the Windows 10 install.

In pure Microsoft form, I'm willing to bet the bloatware from Microsoft, and in our case, Toshiba - will be off of the scale.

If you don't mind, start a conversation with me, to give me a heads-up as to what's going to happen with 32-bit Windows laptop users, with AMD 64-bit CPUs.

Our older computer (Sony Vaio), along with our other desktop (a Dell, running Win 7) were carted off to Best Buy to be recycled, sans hard disk drives. Two older 4:3 LED monitors, too.

It's time to sell the house. Colorado,
or bust!

I did reserve my copy, but I did not wait for my turn. There is a way to do the update manually, using the Media Creation Tool. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 It's fairly straight forward.

As to the 32-bit windows on a 64 bit pc, I'm not exactly sure how that will work. I'm running 64 bit windows.

What peas me off... most all other drivers.
Well, it seems like most of them do something to make me just want to shake somebody by the ears and ask them what the heck do they think they're doing? Or are they even thinking at all?
Quit CRUISING in the PASSING Lane! How can a person of average intelligence(after all, they needed that to get the licence in the first place didn't they?) be ignorant of this basic 101 idea on proper etiquette and courtesy and safety?
Where did it all go so wrong?
And... The speed limit is 70. I go to pass you in the proper lane because you're only doing 65 and I don't want to drive 65 in a 70.
What do you do as I start to come around you? Why, you speed up to 70 now.
Of course you do.
You know why?
Because you're stupid.
So I either need to drop back and get back behind your asinine ass... Or speed up to 75 or 80 to get ahead of you so I can get back into the slow lane to do my 70.
Of course I'm not one for dropping back so I chose the latter.
So I'm doing 80 trying to understand why me.
This is usually about when the cop sees me.
Now I pretty much just wish you would wreak and die. Now you're really messing with my life and my schedule and my priorities.
You have brought out the worst in me. Now I'm a little mad at myself, a little mad at the cop, and seething about you and your ignorance.
I hope you get mugged.
I hope your wife does the mail man. I hope your dog shits on you and everything you hold dear.
But most of all, I wish you would just give up driving all together. Stay home. Stay anywhere but any where around my more-important life.
You slow me down again, get me a ticket... Well, I'll find you and kill you.

Because what you do really grinds my gears.

Oh. So do t.v commercials and house flies.

It grinds my gears a bit when people threaten death for things that really aren't generally worthy of death as a punishment. Slow drivers? Sure they're annoying, but death? That's a bit much in my opinion. Although I admit I've wanted to slap a few bad drivers upside the head :D - but I also know that I'm human, I'm sure some drivers have wanted to slap me for things I've done on the road, too!

At least some of you must have heard of the dentist who killed Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe. What he did was a really sucky thing, but he's apparently getting death threats.

I think there's enough death occurring naturally that we don't need to be wishing death on people just because they did something stupid. Even for really stupid things. Just my $.02

/end rant

Had quite a event tonight. Right in the middle of casual internet usage, my internet goes out. I try resetting the modem and router as typical troubleshooting to no avail. Try a hard line from the modem and it works without an issue.

Called Asus support for help with the router and got someone who didn't know anything and tried to get me off the phone as soon as possible trying to blame it on the ISP. Called back and got someone who knew what they were doing, but screwed up taking my email address to send me instructions to fix it and didn't bother to stay on the line to confirm I got the email. Called a third time after not getting the email for 30 minutes, I made them stay on the line while until I got the email.

While trying to follow their instruction to get the device out of Rescue Mode, my computer reboots automatically due to windows updates. Thank god it wasn't in the progress of flashing the actual firmware. After the reboot, I was able to flash the firmware and successfully restore the device. At least it worked, but the customer service experience wasn't a pleasant one.
