How about renaming the new file? Maybe with a different extension? Sounds like it has a hidden attribute that is preventing Windows from seeing it.

Treo, I assigned a different extension to it (png vs jpg) and told my laptop to view ALL files and folders.

Astro sees that pic all day long. My laptop still doesn't.

This is quite maddening! All I wanna do is post a screenshot to AF - geeeezzzz

Why not just just take a screen shot on your laptop? Or is that the pic that is too big?

I'm trying to take a screen shot of the modifications I made to Ginny using Jelly Bean mods. I can't move the reduced photo to the PC... in fact, the PC can't even see it.

Oh. I would have thought changing the extension would solve the problem? Anytime I want to post a screenshot I just post it to facebook and copy the url and then post it here.

Very good idea. It was a long date/time string. So in Astro I renamed it, staying in 8.3 format w/.jpg as the extension.

The laptop STILL won't see it! :(

So in desperation I just uploaded it to facebook and then uploaded the URL to AF. Not my preferred way of doing things, but it works :)

Basically it was just showing some JB mods that I put in my dropbox folder. People wanted to see it so that's how I ended up showing it to them.

I like the softkey mods. I'll have to try it out.

Hey, Chief. For the fun of speculation want to make a guess when Verizon will send out an OTA for JB? I'm dying to get it, but still don't have the nerve to root.

Chief, did you try emailing it from Nexie to yourself?

Atrain, if I absolutely HAD to take a SWAG at it, I would guess January 2013.

They're going to want to sell you the new Jelly Bean phones that are coming out this fall/winter. Maybe - just MAYBE - after that, they'll finally push out a JB OTA.

Rooting was/is a scary thing for me too. Even rooting veterans will tell you that if your pulse isn't racing a little bit in the process, then you probably have no clue what you're really doing.

But Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit was amazing for me: You tell it what to do, and it pushes the ADB and fastboot commands to the phone for you. Such a time saver! Tell it to unlock, it does (wiping the whole phone in the process, so back up!). Tell it to root, it does. Tell it to flash recovery, it does.

Then you're free to flash away! :D

But I would say that my #1 reason for rooting isn't even ROMming... it's the ability to make nandroid backups. A nandroid backup takes a snapshot image of the phone's entire current state at that moment... system, data, boot, everything but the internal user storage. And if a malicious app takes over and screws things up, or a mistake is made flashing a ROM (it happens to the best of us), you can wipe the phone and restore the nandroid. It'll take the phone back to the exact state it was in at that moment, and it will be like nothing ever happened.

I had a lot of questions as a newbie. I read. A lot. And then I took the plunge. Having experienced what Android Open Source is, and the power that you can have over every aspect of your phone (not what Verizon says you can do), I would never go back to stock and stay there.

When you're ready to root, let us know. We'll guide you through the process and advise you. In the end, though, it's YOUR phone. We're not there. You are. And YOU get to do the leg work and the home work.

My 0.02 and aren't you glad you asked! :p

Quick question to my NFC friends, can you program the Nexie to act as a name badge allowing entry to secure areas instead of using your employee id?

Wow. That is a good question. I have a security key card to get into work. If I lose it I have to pay $17 for a new one. If this were possible I would like to know also. I just don't see it happening.

Interesting fact about where I live and place of buisness. During the Cold War and very well possible to this day, The Horseshoe Curve has been a target of foreign countries. They bomb it and that would seriously hurt the country. I live 2 miles from it. But not only that, my job is only 6 miles away and we are the biggest(I think) rebuild and repair locomotive shop in the country. We've even had Australia come to us to make some. We finished that order around last October.

I worked in one of those "initial target" places for a while. They actually had/have tunnels underground so it was impossible to tell via satellite how much activity was going on. We didn't make anything top secret or high tech, just very important to our ability to be a superpower. Much like your facility. Kinda spooky but cool at the same time.

I'm not sure but between Hunter Army Air Field, Ft. Stewart, and the Port of Savannah, I'm not in the safest place in the world either.

Lol, I think we are pretty safe either at the beach or here in the mountains. Low population and nothing interesting to target nearby, living an hour from anything has some advantages. We actually saw the sun this afternoon, after it finally stopped raining, it was delightful. Spent today building the boxes for new cabinetry for an L shaped pantry. I still have to work out a small design function issue and then tomorrow we can finish up the short part of the L then start on the doors. It will be great to have more food storage (remember that thing about being a ways from town). Speaking of food, The Heirloom German Black Tomatoes are coming in, they are so good! If you have a chance to try them, give it a go, they are ugly, but boy are they tasty!

Morning everyone! Well, since my daughter's DX was dying, and she can't afford a brand new phone, I decided to sell her my GNex and try out the GSIII. I like that I still have visitation rights with my GNex, and will still get to play around with ROMs on it (because she wants me to "make it pretty" for her. LOL) I doubt I'll root the GSIII until there's an easy method like Wugs. I'm not quite confident enough in my knowledge and abilities to follow a manual process. :D Hope you guys don't mind me sticking around here, even though I'm not a daily user. If I find that I miss my GNex too much, I may switch with her, but for now, her sleek white figure has me mesmerized.

Off to West Virginia today through Wednesday for a work conference. Bring on the 16 hour days filled with schmoozing, food I can't pronounce and more pretentious d-bags than you can shake a stick at.

Morning everyone! Just have about an hours worth of Internet left here. Having trouble charging anything but the Flyer so it's all I got.
We had a decent storm last night. Nothing crazy but lots of wind, some lightening and rain.
Dawnie, good luck with the SGS3, I haven't followed it much lately but I recall Verizons had a locked bootloader so it may stifle development a bit.
