I installed GPA 12 yesterday and it was runny pretty glitchy all day. Last night it froze up, so I had to pull out the battery.

Now it won't even turn on. I went to Verizon (Didn't tell them I rooted) and they told me there's nothing they can do about it.

NEED HELP!!! Anyone know what I can do?!?!

Did you try plugging your phone into a wall charger to see if it will turn on that way? Guess you have no insurance on your phone?

Yeah, still doesn't work. I have insurance but they want $100 for a used Droid. Seriously??

Installing a ROM shouldn't kill you phone like that. ROMs don't screw up the bootloader that I have seen which is what would truly brick your phone. Now installing the new kernel running at a higher clock speed may have done something to kill your CPU (don't know) or your phone just gave up the ghost.

Is your phone still under warranty? I know with my insurance it also includes extending the warranty with Verizon also so it will last longer than a year (it is part of the 8 or 9 dollars I pay per month not sure exactly what it is now). If you have that coverage Verizon should replace your phone due to bad hardware even if it is over a year old. I would call Verizon customer service as I have had pretty good experiences with them vs. the retail stores.

I actually just got off the phone with them now and they said the phone is under warranty, which is not what the retail store said. They told me what store I should go to in order to have it properly checked out. I'll head over tomorrow.

My only fear is that if they can get it booted, they'll realize it's rooted and then I'm effed.

Well I am glad your under warranty. As for them getting your phone powered up unless they can do something like RSD lite (wich wouldn't work if your phone won't power up at all) then I don't know what they can do that you didn't. If your computer doesn't see it and it doesn't power up when you plug it in trying to charge it then I don't know what else you could do (unless it is just a bad battery).

I am guessing they will probably just swap it out for a CPO. Let us know how it works out for you and we will hope for the best.

I know its a long shot but maybe your battery went bad? Who knows worth a shot. you have a second battery laying around?

might be a good idea to download rsd lite and see if that program recognize it. you might be able to flash it and bring it back from the dead.

You could try using RSD lite to try see what you can do with it. Is it charging on your computer? If so it may be a problem with your regular charger and hence your battery is dead (though you would think the store would have checked that when you brought it in).

***edit*** Doh' Dark Jedi types faster than I do :)

The white light by the thing goes on, but that's it. When I plugged it in something flashed up on the screen about downloading drivers for OMAPP(?) device or something.

But I got RSD Lite and not sure what to do now.

EDIT: It just installed Motorola Flash Interface Driver?

If your white light next to your charger port is on, I would wait a bit before trying RSD lite and see if it charges up and then try to turn it on (unless you have already tried that).

As for RSD lite I will leave that to Dark Jedi as I have not fully used it before and do not want to give you bad advice. Good luck.

If it's plugged in, then should it need to charge up?

If it installed the flash interface driver. On your droid screen did it come on and show the bootloader screen?

No, nothing. just a lonely white light next to the charging port.

I will say now I dont know much about rsd lite and you will have to get in touch with one of the experts on the board I think OMG the mod can help with this. I would PM him and see.

I just suggest the rsd lite to see if the phone would be recognized. I will not suggest any thing to be flashed on it as this program can seriously screw your phone if you dont know what your doing.

I just thought it might be worth a shot before doing RSD, sorta of a last chance for a easy fix. It was the only thing left I could think of trying. If RSD can find it then you should be able to restore life to it as RSD will flash to the bootloader. I wish I could give you the step by step for it, but I'm not sure of all of the steps.

I will say leave it plugged in and see if afterwhile if the screen turns on. I know sometimes if the battery is fully dead and you use a computer usb to charge the phone it will take awhile before the phone screen will turn on. .

you might have a bad screen too.

yeah thats a good guide and how I rooted my phone the first time. follow that and you will be able to reflash the phone. if questions pm OMJ he helped me when I rooted my phone the first time. he knows his stuff.

I would agree with Dark Jedi. I don't think it was the ROM since he said his phone had not been running right for a bit after it loaded. If loading the ROM did it I would think it would have done it right away. This is not the first time someones phone died after loading or running a ROM they installed that had nothing to do with the ROM and more to do with the phone giving up under the stress of loading the new ROM. This kinda thing happened when they released 2.2 and several people's phones went belly up from loading the OTA issued by Verizon.
