The outcome could have been quite different if the manufacturers and carriers permitted owners the option to go pure vanilla Android without rooting. But, y'know ... greed is good, right Mr. Gecko?
Exactly, and of course there will. I can't wait for there to be something good to test me. The UK seems to be lacking at the moment. Nexus One and Desire being the top 2 I would say (I'd never look at Samsung).
I was playing around with the Vibrant last night and I have to say that I really liked it. I really like the 4" screen, the phone is very fast, and the touch screen is very responsive, much better then the clearpad 2000 on the N1. Touch wiz is the big dissapointment. It tries to be the iPhone in the worst way (icons are all square, app draw goes left to right). It really ruins the phone.

You could always throw a different launcher on it. My son just got the Captivate and he actually likes TouchWiz. Of course he's coming from a Samsung feature phone (Eternity) that has an old TouchWiz interface.

Very true, I am just not ready to get onto another contract yet (or maybe ever). One of the greatest features of the N1 isn't really even a feature, no Att contracts.
